Heating Problems

I have a 6 month old Veiled Chameleon living in an open air cage. I currently have live plants, a mister, 100W lights, and a thermometer. I live in upstate NY and it gets really cold here at night so I'm super worried that she's not getting enough heat at night. I'm never awake to see the over night temperatures in her cage. Could anyone suggest a second heating source for her? I know to never use heat rocks and I have no idea if a heat pad would work or just melt the bottom of the cage.

Does your thermometer have a Min/Max button? The digital thermometers I have record the minimum and maximum temperatures. That would let you know what the temps are dropping to at night, without having to be awake to see them. They're cheap, and you can find them at just about any big box store. I use the kind with a probe so I can position it near the basking area.

Veileds that age can go as low as the low 40s at night without a problem (mine currently are doing mid 40s to low 50s outdoors this time of year). I even let babies hatched the same day go down to 50 and they do great. I doubt your house gets that cold. You are probably safe. Just remember to avoid drafts indoors and make sure the chameleon can warm up during the day enough.
