I have recently acquired a hedgehog for my sister because she wasn’t taking care of it how could I make it nicer because she would never take it out?

Darn! You must be following in my footsteps with critters. Fun to have and had a few pair in the late 90's (multiple litters were produced and sold) (y). They make great pets if you are able to hand tame them. Some older ones are just nasty stickers and never totally loose that ability to inflict pain.

Lucky for owners now a days they are all the smaller species and not the bigger species. I have had both and just the weight of the larger ones balled up was painful. Not sure what happened to them, as I lost track moving to CA in the early 2000's. They frown upon having hedgehogs and ferrets here in CA, so moved on with other critters.

TO your question- get some gloves and handle that way, maybe she/he will open up and then let her walk on your hands. It is difficult when they get older and set in their ways and jump to prick ya. Ouch!!!!

The way I would handle the mean ones was when they are curled up in a ball with their spines out, gently (wearing gloves at first) push their spines to the side and pick up like a dog or cat picks up their babies.

Another good one to watch for mean hogs

Thanks he will be my 7 pet I want a scorpion My mom said no😞

lol--- did the scorpion thing too. I had Emperors and Florida Barks. Both were scary looking but never stung me and I handled them often. Maybe someday!

lol The stingers are for 1. protection and to immobilize prey. Once they learn you are neither they don't use it. At least those 2 species, so can't comment on others. (y)

My mom made a big mistake that actually worked for me. She said "no furred animals" when I wanted a pet (they had dogs before). BINGO! My first pet was Bark Scorpion, then hatched chicken eggs, then moved on to fish, snakes, salamanders, Caimen alligator. I am sure she regretted not knowing my interests. Ha ha
She is 83 and I send her pics of all my critters weekly and she enjoys my little projects now that their not in her house. ha ha (I am still trying to grow out of it but to hard). (y)

Here he is any recommendations for better cages

You scamp!

I tried similar tactics, but it always came down to, "I don't care what I said. I'm your mother and I'm saying NO!" 😦 Apart from the few reptiles & fish, I never got a furry until I had a place of my own. Then guess who came over to spoil the 💩 out of them.

lol
Here was one of my babies. The male was normal color and female was albino, but I did not have cell phone at the time, so very few pictures of critters were taken back then. It was a polaroid camera. Click, zip and wait a few seconds. (y)
