Height on male Veiled Chameleon

I’m getting the 2x2x4 cage ready for my juvenile male chameleon. He will have a T5 Arcadia 12% on 6” riserers. I want to make sure I have the upper branch at the correct height to have the top of his casque at 6” below the screen. How TALL from belly to the top of the casque is the average for a male? What should I set the branch at to account for his height with casque?

That isn’t really what we go by when measuring where to have basking areas in relation to uvb light. Since you are using a 12% rather than the standard 6%, you want to have a distance of about 10-11” between the light and basking area. Raising the uvb 6” is a lot because then the basking branch will be only about 4-5” from the top of the enclosure. Instead, raise your uvb light about 3-4” above the top and then you can have your basking area be 6-7” below the top. You also want to raise your basking light a few inches above the screen top as young chameleons seem to enjoy walking upside down and by the time they feel the heat, they are already burned.

I was going off of this.. I figured 6” above the screen and the branch 6” below would be 12” total
