Hello and thanks

I've been reading this forum for the last 7 months and joined so I could say thanks for all the info.
My 10 year old began asking for a chameleon last summer and we made her wait till Christmas to be sure she really wanted it. So for Christmas she picked out a baby veiled from FlChams (they are 25 minutes away from me) based on the sire photos.
Despite all the preparations and reading we learned a lot once SA-Fyre was actually here with us. He's in a 2 X 2 X 4 Repti breeze with a golden pothos and a 3.5' hibiscus. He has a 50w halogen spot based on forum suggestions and a uvb 5.0 power compact. Most days the cage is on the patio where he gets morning sun that he loves. He has no problems eating or drinking in front of us, even though he hates the mister. He's got a bad attitude when first removed from the cage but he LOVES sleeping in my daughters hair.
He started off a slow eater , but has since turned into a pig and growing like a weed. So far it's been the best pet I ever bought me, I mean my daughter. Lol. My wife has given me the green light to get myself a panther.

First night in new home. This hibiscus had root gnats and subsequently died. I think he was eating the gnats however.

Our patio is on the second floor facing east and gets some great early morning Florida sun.

His cage spot during the cooler nights. Him sleeping.

Him about a week ago on my finger. The speed of growth is unreal!

Awe he is so cute! Congrats and welcome to the forums! Btw are you dusting your feeders with calcium??

Yup. I have calcium without D3 for daily use and the multi vit and calc w/d3 a couple times a month. We keep the crickets in the exo terra large cricket pen and feed them a variety of gut load... Currently collard greens. I think he likes the dusted crickets better anyway , easier to catch and see. We free range them. Once a week we give him a treat of a super worm or wax worm . I think I'm going to order silk worms too.

Hi.
Mine probably a month older loves silkworms. I feed half and half now putting in 7-8 crickets in the morning and 8-10 silkies in the afternoon. Be careful to get the right size silkies they can grow to 3 1/2 inches. I use small/ medium.
When we got our veiled he weighed 12 grams, now one month later he is 34 grams. As you say they grow like weeds.

I was going to order the eggs. It looks like that'll be fun for my daughter to see the process through the hatching. Where are you buying yours from ?

Hi
I'm in UK so my supplier probably won't be much use to you. When we got our chameleon we didn't realise that we would become bug raising experts too, almost a hobby in itself. Good luck with the silkies. If you are raising from eggs don't forget they only eat mulberry leaves or silkworm chow made from mulberry leaves. Good luck.
