Hi all, thought I'd say hello & post up a few pics of my 4 month old Nosy be "Trigger" - Supposedly a male but not really showing alot of colour yet. Kinda alternates between green & brown, Has lots more markings now he's shed though.

This is my first cham & I've done alot of reading already (this site is also an excellent source of info) but there's one thing that's puzzling me. What are the kinda "gland" looking things under his armpits ?

He's drinking, eating & pooping well but his ribs show a little when he puffs up, does he look about the right weight to you guys ?

Apologies for the photo quality, they were taken with my mobile.

welcome to the forum.u will find many helpful things here like i did. all the people here are very helpful so dont be afraid to ask questions.

whats up with the blister looking things???

Looks like gular edema. This is the most serious case I've seen photos of on the forum. What is he eating, how much do you supplement, and how often does he drink? I'm not experienced with this condition, and the senior members might be able to give you some advice, but it may very well require instant veterinary attention.

Answering the following questions would be very helpful:

I had a cham with gular edema. You will have to give him extra water, and also no supplements but calcium.Put him outside more often, half sun/half shade. That should help it after a while, It does look like he has a little edema.

I've only had him a fortnight. He's eating crickets, mealworms and the odd waxworm. I gutload them with carrot, greens & fish food flakes. They're dusted 4 times a week with T-rex Chameleon Dust.

He had these swellings when I bought him. Should I take him back to the shop I got him from ? What are the main causes of gular edema & can anyone else confirm that this may be the issue ?

I'll start looking for a local vet who deals with exotics...

Oh, thanks Brian, should I give it a few days to see if he improves. And is there any way to get him to drink more ?

Whoops didn't see your 2nd reply. The thing under his arm was suggested to be gular edema, does anyone else have a theory ?

It doesn't look real bad. When one of my chams had it, it was way bigger. His might get bigger though. I would be more worried about that wart? under his arm. I would mist for longer periods like 5 min 3-4 times a day, also put a dripper if you can...

Fish food flakes can cause problems if you use a lot of them. I don't know the symptoms of gout, but if the previous owners were using fish flakes as well, this may be your problem. Mealworms and waxworms aren't good food for your cham. Some use them, but they don't offer much nutrition. If he came with those armpit lumps, then it is the responsibility of the shop, those aren't normal.

It's not really wart like. He has them under both front legs. It's more like extra skin, It looks soft (although I obviously haven't prodded him) and it's not visible when he stretches his leg out or upward.

Great link Opihiman, thank you so much for posting that. I hadn't read that, but very informative. I have to thank Dodolah for having that on his blog as well. Kermit, those are fluid buildups, probably why they aren't always visible.

Thaks opihiman. I managed to find that article & can see the slight bulge on trigger so it may well be the start of gular edema, so I will cease the use of the T-rex dust and get some calcium supplements instead & see how it progresses, if it gets worse, a trip to the vets will follow. There doesn't seem to be any link with the armpit issue & searching the net draws a blank. Anybody have any theories ?

Those lumps under his arms are not normal. Could be a cyst? Parasite?

Could be edema, but that usually starts under the chin? Here is a link (I hope I'm doing this right) to another thread where someone is asking about Edema: https://www.chameleonforums.com/whats-edema-14643/

I agree with greatly reducing (or not using at all) fisk flakes as part of your gutload.

A vet visit may be in order. If the pet store knowingly sold you a chameleon with health issues, you may be able to get them to take him back or pay for the vet exam - but dont hold your breath on that.

Good luck! and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forums,im sorry to hear about your problem i hope he gets better soon

This is an old thread that was started in November last year! Hence why the pictures are no longer available on photobucket - Kermit must have deleted them from his account. I think David Maquire revived the thread to ask where Kermit got his chameleon from.
