Hello everyone, new to this site and i just bought my first Cham... well my son (21) and his gf did but i know i'm the one who will be taking care of him lol since i'm the one who takes care of 3 bearded dragons hahah anyways i have already read alot from this site thanks to all of u with ur questions and answers. We have named him Dozzer bc hes slow but hes only ababy yet 3- 4 months old he certinly dosent act the the dragons do they r lazy, Dozzer seems to be active and walking around maybe hes exploring his new home the cage he was in was so tiny its sad so for now i have paper towles on the floor of the tank i am waiting for him to do his thing so i can make sure hes well, he ate about 8 crickets when i got him home last night so he wasnt shy about that and today he ate another 18 crickets at what age should i introduce him to vegs and greens or should he be eating them now i'm sure i will learn more about Dozzer as the days go by if theres anything someone would like to sujest would be cool thanks for ur time ... What species?
I'll assume that it's a veiled chameleon, until stated otherwise.

I noticed you're keeping him in a "tank"
eventually that should be changed soon.
Chameleons and B. Dragons are two very different species.

You'll need to get him into a screen cage with lots of plants
(basically, you'll need to get an entire setup for him)
including some quality mineral supplement for dusting his food
depending on where you live I would be concerned about his water intake.
at the moment, you should be misting his enclosure a few times/ day,
while at the same time allowing for some airflow so he doesn't get a respiratory infection.

Can you give us a pict of his current environment?
that would help lots... as a temp solution I would up end any glass sided tank
so that one side of open to the air
put a nice plant in there and place the moderate UV light along the screen side (normally the topside)
and give him some dusted crickets

His roaming around is a sign of stress
they're inquisitive at that age but they shouldn't be constantly
looking for a way out of the cage.

They make great pets, you just have to give them what they need.

thanks for the reply, right now i have him in a bd 55g tank top mesh but i will get the other one as i do like the looks so much better, he is not walking around that much just when i brought him home last night and when i took him out today to get him used to being handled since he was caged for the last 2 months that i know of now i have fake plants in with him but i have been reading they like live plants whats best for him and i do plan on getting a waterfall for him as well any other help is greatly needed thanks alot .. Joy:eek:

wow 18 crickets in one day. i may be wrong but from what I have heard you may wanna regulate that a little.

You don't really *need* to get him live pants but it's a good idea.
just to let them have something around to nibble on. *
* Freshly purchased plants from a nursery may be sprayed with poisons
that may kill him if he either licks or eats the leaves.
It's a good idea to use a plant that has been outdoors for awhile -poison free

Ok 55 gal is fine for that size animal but when he does get to sub adult size
you'll have to move him up to some sort of screen cage to allow airflow
Tanks are fine for young ones as they'll keep the humidity up but once they're older...
screen cages.

Save your money on that waterfall
I find them to be a useless waste of cash. (ymmv)

I hope that you're dusting was a calcium based vitamin supplement
and I think that your animal should be up to medium crickets if not large by now
You may be surprised by what they can chew up and swallow.
just as long as it's not too large a prey, they'll be fine.

UV light? what type?

ok maybe thats y hes eating alot they r small crickets the plants r fake but i do tend on getting real ones and i am going to the rep expo on the 16 here in missasauga to get the mesh enclosure hes gettin cal with vit D i have offered small amounts of greens but i dont think hes eating them, his lights r the 5.0 and he has a 40 basking light and at night a black night glow, so he should be set up after the rep expo, he seems happier today i had him out on the desk he found a mirror and seen himself that was interesting he went a lil' darker in black so i moved him away from the mirror back into his home hes not walking around that much in there now maybe he was still getting used to his new place since we got him on thurs? thanks Joy:eek:

oh and i seen him drink for the first time when i was misting so yeah Dozzer
