Help a Daddy Out!!

Two months ago I got my 9 year old a beardie baby of her own aka "spike". He was 7 inch hatchling that is now closer to 10" and will grow to a 20 inch monster. He loves her like crazy and sits on her shoulder. She has a small pet bed that he sits I and they watch tv together. She gives him a bath in our bathtub and it is her chore to pick up any deposits each day. When she talks to him he turns his head sideways and acts like he is really listening. They are a great choice for kids. As for my panthers, they are off limits to my kids.

aw man that is so awesome. I wouldnt touch my Floyd unless I am giving him meds. That guy is fiesty! My leopard gecko Jasmine is sweet and will lay on me but shes nocturnal so I take her out at night. Not as exciting and a beardie though. I'd love to add one to my reptile/arachnid collection

Ellbowdavis, thank you for sharing.
And that nails it lol.
Bearded Dragon it is! I have to dd that I am still very set on getting a panther too....for me and in a couple of years haha!
I am seriously lookking forward to this Beardi though!
Any day now...:D

Last piccy. Each of my son's has a bed and sleeps like this every night unless they are hibernating. Every morning they just kind of wait in bed, looking around until their master wakes up and puts them back in their enclosure to warm up.

Seriously?! They don't wander around? That is awesome. We could never do that due to the other pets (cats & dogs).

Adorable pics of the beardies everyone! To the OP, glad you've decided on a beardie - I have 2 and they are very sweet creatures. You had asked about clipping their nails - my husband built a cage for them, and we tiled the bottom to make cleaning easier, and placed landscaping bricks in a pyramid shape so they can climb up and down towards or away from their basking spot. The bricks naturally wear down their nails, so in 5 years we've never had to clip them, plus the cage is pretty neat looking. Also, our two love a repti-hammock strung in the corner of the cage, so that's something else to add. We're looking forward to pics! :D

Absolutbill, many thanks for the tips! I think I am more excited than my son LOL. Yes, will definitely post pics as soon as the little critter arrives!

All this talk about beardies has sparked my interest in owning one now! It might sate my need to try to train my cham to be more 'likeable'. :D Good luck with your project with your child. That, after all, is more rewarding than the pet regardless of which you choose!

That's how I got into mine sort of.

I started because so many people wanted to buy my chams for their kids or imagining a "pet" they could hold and cuddle.

I really didn't have interest in the dragons other than that- as something to recommend instead of the chams I was breeding. After a few years, I realized the dragons had won me over and I was hooked for life.

I think a berdie is the way to go too- they are called "puppy dogs of the reptile world " mine, a rescue w/ spine issues, but you would never know he had anything wrong now - but, I would NOT get what is called a "silky" - they have tender skin- get a leather back, or a reg/ - now, keep in mind, I know the color of a panther is a real turn on - berdies also can come quite colorful :D your son will LOVE his new pet I am sure - keep us posted :)

I saw the most aamazingly beautiful beardie at a reptile show last may. The guy had him on a little leash, and the beardie was quite the attention hog. He let me pet his chin for a solid minute :) Literally rainbow colored, crazy long tail, and huge spikes. I wish I had taken a photo; I had never seen such impressive coloration before.

I know! It's a shame you'll need to find a forum for beardies :(

Fluxlizard, a big big thank you for your help and advice on this. Your pics with the Beardie laying on your son and at the breakfast table helped to convince my son that a Beardie is the way to go.

Are they just as happy living on their own?
