his mouth full of saliva.and he was often accompanied by nausea.
what s wrong with him???!!!
does he have parastie or the upper respiratory tract bacterial infectionplease help me! thanks very very very much!!

I'm not an expert by all means but it sounds like some kind of URI. Can you get your cham to a vet today? If it is an URI you will need some meds to help clear it up.

we do not have vet to help my cham.if he gets URI.What do you recommend he take in medicine?

For URIs i have always heard that Baytril is given for like 10 days or something like that and it usually goes away. It sounds like a really bad case tho, there isnt a vet anywhere that could help you?

I have never had a chameleon have a URI. The only experience ive had with reptiles and URIs have been snakes, and they give them an injection. I know its Baytril, but other than that i do not know for chameleons im sorry.

I know that when snakes get URIs people often push their temperatures up a few degrees as well

You also need to help force/assist feed and water him. If he becomes malnourished anymore than he already is it might make him unsaveable

It is a long shot but I would try calling the exotic vet that is closest to you and asking for advice and see if they will help you or send you something to help. In the meantime, raise his temps a bit, gut load your feeders with more antioxidants if you can such as blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, blackberries, Prunes, raspberries, and apples. Also make sure you have greens such as mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion greens, and romane lettuce. You can also try using this http://www.reptaid.com/ it is said to work, I used it and it seemed to work. Some swear by it and others don't see a difference so it's worth a try.

Up his temps to about 95 and buy a warm mist humidifier to put in the cage with him. You cam also give him long steamy showers. He really needs an antibiotic but the antibiotic baytril doesn't always work. You could try it thought it would be better than trying nothing. He really needs a vet visit and a culture and sensitivity test to see which antibiotic will work for him. Here in the US we have to get Baytril from a vet.

We really can't give you advice on medicine because he could have one infection that is completely immune to Baytril and waste those 10 days on a medicine that doesn't help. Also, I don't want to give you a dosage and have it kill your chameleon, I don't think I or anyone else wants that responsibility.

You really have to try finding an exotics vet, even if they're a couple hours away driving. Meanwhile, raising the basking temperature is a good idea, and give him warm mistings to help clear his airways.

Seriously, best of luck! I hope you are able to get him treated and that all goes well!

Can you describe for us what you saw when you discovered this?

his mouth full of saliva.and he was often accompanied by nausea.

when he had nausea- did food come out or only liquid? Did he shake his head side to side first or was he nose-down toward the ground and liquid came out?

Is saliva thick? Does the saliva have an odor when he opens his mouth?

Do his eyes look open and OK? Are his nostrils clear for breathing?

Is there a zoo nearby where you might talk with the veterinarian for the zoo?

Best advice I can give with the info so far if you cannot locate a good veterinarian is to try the baytril. You can get it from any veterinarian- even one who does dogs or cats or birds or farm animals.

Here is a page to help you work out the dose for a lizard-

If you can tell us a little more about the symptoms we might be able to give you a little more information.

If a chameleon is full of water and you handle him and tip him nose down, sometimes the water can pour out onto the floor...

Also, if there is someone near you where people take their birds when they are sick, he might be someone who can help if you cannot find a veterinarian who knows lizards or exotics.

i recently visited a vet and was givin instruction that if my guy showed synmptoms of a uri. to inject my feeders with .02cc of bytril he gave me a syringe to do it , but like the other members this is what fits my case may not be the same for you.

My cham hasn't hasn't had an uri so far, but your vet gave you the meds for you to give your cham bytril via syringe orally, right? But some doctors give injections in the office? Just checing/wonder about the applications of meds.
To the owner with the sick pet: it is very, very important to find a vet that can help and has some experience. I have to drive 80 miles to see my vet specialist, but you have to do it or it may very well die. Your cham can compensate for so long without close attention and care when sick, after that a cham can die fast once it's run out of energy etc... It's you baby and your responsibility to give it good care as you would your child. Please don't wait too long to go to the vet; I'd start look now (please)!!!! I'm hoping for you and you pet the best of luck and a speedy recovery!! Give good waterings!!

his eyes look good and he eats a worm

He ate a worm since throwing up?

This is good. I think very hopeful.

Eyes clear, nose clear, saliva only a little thick.

This is also hopeful.

Did he throw up during or soon before or after being handled or was he just sitting in his enclosure and decided to suddenly throw up?

Did he have a drink soon before throwing up?

I ask because every once in a long while if they have had a drink, especially a deep drink, they can sort of fill up with water and some may come back out, especially if they are handled or move quickly if startled or move quickly to eat or something like that.

Can't say I'm one to give advise anyway. My lovely Daisey had been acting abnormal and I'd tried to get her in to the busy vet's office sooner, but on the way to her vet appointment (the same day after my last post here), Daisy died in my hands. I miss her so much. I was also taking a new male ,Romeo, I just got; he came to me in bad health. I hope after the vets treatments he will get well. It's helped me to have him to tend to. I'm crushed because it's my fault Daisy was ill. I thought I'd bought uvb blubs but i was wrong. I know, I was so stupid... plus I didn't know I also needed calcium B3 2x a month. I only had regular dusting Ca. Wish I would have found these forums sooner. At least now my male cham "Romeo" has a fighting chance to recover now. I hope I can do better/be a better care taker for him.
