My poor baby Missey is about 9 months old (veiled Chameleon) and she has metabolic bone disease. We found out on May 11 that she is pregnant! We saw the eggs on the x-ray so I thought she would lay any day now! It's now the 14th of June and still nothing. I have so many questions going through my head and I don't know what to do. I have done everything the vet has told me to do and nothing is working. If she doesn't get these eggs out she will die and it is killing me! They told me to put her in a container with dirt about 7inch deep, leaves, and vines and leave her there for about a week or so giving her privacy. How long can a female go without laying???The vet has done everything that they can and now I am living through hope..I am trying to be as positive as I can but it's so hard because I treat my animals like my children! She is doing a lot better with the MBD but now it's getting these eggs out. If there is anything you can help me with please let me know! I really would appreciate it SO MUCH!! This is my baby girl and I will do anything for her so she can survive!! Oh and if you are wondering about the tail..I adopted her at petco when she was 2 months old and she came to them like that. Have no idea what happened to her tail. My poor baby :(

I have two suggestions that I'm not sure will help but have worked with my panther chameleons in the past

1.) try making the substrate deeper and firm enough to dig a tunnel into-- Some chameleons like to dig deeper, I'm not sure about veiled

2.) make some of your vines go into the soil so it appears to almost be roots.

Not sure if it will help, as I've never done veiled before. Just thought I would let you know...

Fingers crossed for you

You might try starting a hole for her. Get a finger in there and work out a tunnel that's 4 or 5 inches deep and wide enough to house her.

Since she has MBD issuies I would try eco earth its lighter and softer for her to dig in so she doesnt brake her legs. since she has/had MBD.:(you can put a little sand in it to make it to were you can dig a tunnel with out it falling in on her. Also I do not do the seperate laying area I use a 10 gal. rubbermaid tote and put it in there cage and put a sheet over the front(A little less stress IMO).

Hope this help you out.
Keep us posted

Thank you all for getting back to me so fast! You guys are amazing! I am using Eco Earth exactly for that reason. Her poor body is still getting better and wanted to give her something soft and more easy to dig with. I didn't want to put any vines in there because I don't want her crawling out and hurting herself since she is not strong enough to be on her own just yet. She is doing a lot better though which is a plus. She just isnt ready to be in her cage yet so I have been leaving her in bucket of dirt. There is plenty of dirt for her, plenty of privacy..i just dont understand it! It hurts me so bad to know that this could kill her so I'm trying to keep my head up. Is there another way I should do it since she can't be on her own in her cage? I worry about her falling and hurting herself. Thank you so much for all your support!! I am so thankful thank you!!

No she hasn't been with a male at all. Her eggs were slightly oval but the vet said they look normal. I don't know exactly how long she has had these eggs. We found out on May 11th but she was in there a week or so before with no eggs at all. So it's kinda hard to tell. I will start up a hole for her to see if that helps! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH AGAIN!!!!

Round is follicles and oval is eggs...which is why I asked the shape. If they are only slightly oval maybe she's not ready to lay them yet? When a female is mated you know to expect eggs about a month later. When not mated, its hard to determine when she first started producing the eggs.

Is there a possiblity she could be egg bound?? So I guess it's hard to say when a female is supposed to lay? I have heard females could go months without laying the eggs! I am so scared of the egg bound situation. She is asleep now so I will create a hole and stuff for her. I hope she gets them out soon. Again thank you so much for your support. Before I have been so upset but now I feel I have a great group of people behind me! THANK YOU!

Also they say when the female is laying eggs dont bother it to much, stay away. If you are sitting in the room a lot watching and taking pics she might feel to unsafe to lay.

I haven't been taking photos. I only did that just once so you guys can see her. It's hard to not bother her though because the vet is stilling telling me to give her calcium and still feed her. What I do is get all that out of the way and then leave her a lone for the rest of the day. Still no eggs from her and it's really making me worried... I do everything I can to make sure she is stress free...but still no eggs!!! It's day 46 now... :(
