HELP!!! i think my cham is dying --please help asap!!!!

i used to put him out for 4-5 hours a day at min as many times as i could during the week... then when we moved for a month stayed in a condo so i did keep him in front for a bay window (i know a window stops most of the uv but i had no other option) then when we moved into the new house is when get got sick... but i did manage to get him out yesterday for 3 hrs and this weekend i will again.

If it was decided that he is close enough to the uv light then that is great. If not you could always screw the fixture into to the wall behind his cage closer to the bottom. I had mine vertically for a while and it seemed to work great.

here are some pics of hi tep. enclosure and new photos of him

Are you sure the vet said nothing to you about a bone disease? Was it a vet who specialzed in chameleons or just reptiles in general? His front leg in that picture looks like a noodle.

Have you googled metabolic bone disease? The images that pop up look just like his little arm.

he said that the only thing is he may have a fracture so i have antibiotic for his bones, and it was a specialized with reptiles and chameleons

He has MBD.
Absolutely No Mistake About It!
This needs to be specifically addressed immediately!
You need to talk to the vet and discuss treatment.
If the vet does not think this chameleon has MBD ...You need to find a new vet.

I gotcha. Either way you have all the right stuff now and it should get better with time. He is so cute!

the vet wanted to do xrays but at this time i cant afford it.
the vet did mention that he may have a bone disease will call first thing in the morning and make sure i have everything right

not to mention i agree on him having MBD after seeing pictures.
it is very sad.
guess im the only one that noticed his cage is facing the wrong way.
chameleons climb and like to be high. turn his cage right side up.
I just had a thought...is it this way b/c of his condition?

yes i have a 46' cage that i had him in...the vet asked me to act. keep him in a 10 gal tank! i couldnt do that! so i found that one-- i was told he needs to be no more than 18' from the uvb light

the cage is 14' tall and he has branches that go almost to the top...so he should be like 8' at min? unless he is on the ground

Superstiney...although the neo calglucon will help, its still important to ensure that you correct whatever husbandry is causing the calcium levels to be out of balance.

Appropriate basking temperatures, proper UVB, proper watering, supplementation, gutloading, etc. are all important in bone health.

I would suggest that you look at what you are feeding the chameleon, what you are feeding to the insect and what you are using to supplement them with to see what the content of calcium, phosphorous, vitamin A and vitamin D3 is in each. I would look at what the source is for the vitamin A in each as well.

Hopefully your chameleon can recover from this and live a relatively normal life!
