HELP!!! I think my Panther is slowly dying!

I agree she needs to be hydrated professionally by a vet she is not good. You should soak her in luke warm water for a hour she will drink on her own she needs water fast or even some hydration drink at this point. But put the drink in a drip bottle you don't want to choke her. If you do soak her only a inch or two of water and she must be supervised.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is really hard to lose these little ones. Research alot before you attempt another cham-they are not easy. Was she OK when you got her? Usually it takes more than a week for them to get into that bad a shape. Were her eyes full when you got her? I might be going after that pet store if I were you for selling you a sick chameleon. For live plants Pothos, Schefflera and Ficus trees are used often. This helps keep your humidity up and you do need a guage for humidity. Next time, get a healthy cham from a good breeder. Again, sorry for your loss.

srry for the loss really srry

i already sent u a message but agian i just want to say srry for the loss its hard to loose these guys there practicly mans best but everything has a time to be :(

Dude im very sorry. Wish it wasnt to late to help her. Im sure we've all made mistakes with our pets at some point and we learn from them. Dont let this discourage you from owning another cham.

Thanks for everything guys. I've decided that I'm not going to let this discourage me from owning another cham. After looking at everything I did, it definitely died from dehydration. I feel horrible about this. I misted her about 3 times a day and made sure that I got the fake hanging plant that I had in her cage really wet so that she could be sure to drink off of it. I now realize that the plant didn't hold any water so she was unable to drink off of it. I also should have stuck around after misting her to make sure she was actually drinking it. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions about safe breeders for panthers. Thanks again for everything to everyone who tried to help.

Sorry about your loss :(

Most people here will suggest the site below:

http://www.flchams.com/

Ask around and people on here can tell you things about making the cage better for a chameleon. Like more foliage. More places for the Chameleon to hide. and what not.

good luck!

First, sorry about your little girl. I agree with Julirs, it would take more than a week for her to get into the shape she was in. Sounds like you got her from someone that didn't know what they were doing in the first place and gave you bad advice and an unhealthy chameleon. Don't be to hard on yourself. You tried to get help but it was too late.

Take some time and read threads on this site that have to do with care, enclosures, feeding, etc. Some members have some really good websites dedicated to the care and health of chameleons. When you've done that, and have questions, come on and ask. We'll help.

When you feel confident that you're ready and able to give it another go, I suggest buying from a reputable breeder. There are plenty here (check the site sponsors and so forth).

FL Chams has great info on their site, and I have 7 extremely healthy beautiful chameleons from them-you can't go wrong. Please don't worry about shipping--beleive it or not all of my chameleons that were overnighted to me went from Florida-through the Louisville UPS hub, and back to me in Florida! All of the chams came out of the shipping box ready to eat! By the way-I am from Indiana originally-so I know what I am talking about! ;) Oh-and get a male-much easier to deal with!

I'm very sorry about your loss. Next time use a "dripper" method of some sort. Misting alone doesn't give an adult panther chameleon enough water to drink.

Again, sorry for the loss. It really sucks to see a chameleon slowly fade away like that. Let the heartache motivate you to improve your technique and do it better next time.

Yes i have the same problem, how do you upload pics from the computer, not the website?????
And does everyone suggest removing the plastic cover that the uv bulb is contained inside?
I have a Zoo Med 18" 5.0 UVB light that has a protective plastic cover on top, so that the bare light bulb is not exposed. Is this good enough for a panther cham (2 years old)?

You must remove the plastic cover if there is one between the cage and the light. There is no option here. UVB does not pass through glass or plastic-not at all. If you do not remove it your cham is not getting UVB and will eventually develop MBD. It does not hurt the bulb to be exposed. Don't mist it directly, but I mist all of my cages and have never had an issue with flourescent tubes.

Oh, please don't get to discouraged. I absolutely agree with everyone. She didn't really have much of a chance to begin with. All of my experiences with these creatures are so rewarding. At this point I can't imagine life without them.

Read more and when you think you have it all down get a healthy male. Don't give up just yet. I would also speak to the place where you got it from and tell them about your experience and how unhappy you are with their store. Do they have any kind of health guarantee?

Thankfully I just got off the phone with the store I bought her from and it sounds like they're going to work something out with me. I was really worried they would just tell me that it was after the 7-day warranty I had but I spoke to the owner of the store and he was very compassionate with me. I'll know more tomorrow so I'll post the details then. Thanks again for everyones help!

Someone else mentioned it as well, but what other reptiles does she have in view. I had a female veiled that didn't grow for 2 months until i realized she could see the shadow of the veiled next door. After i fixed the problem, she promptly put on 4 gr in 1 week, and that was just with a shadow. Remember alot of other reptiles eat chameleons in the wild. She might be really stressed. It does also sound like she is dehyddrated. Have you tried putting her in the shower?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your loss.....It's heartbreaking.

If the store decides to get you another make sure it drinks and eats before you take it. I don't think I'd take another from them though, you may be better off working out a deal for cash back or other merchandise.

As for breeders I could also suggest Josh from Lost Lake Chameleons or John and Cyndi from Chameleon Kingdom. Josh has been nothing but helpful taking time to answer any questions before I was even a customer, and John and Cyndi couldn't wait for an e-mail to confirm a safe delivery..... I had to call them when he got here so they weren't nervous. They care about every Cham they sale. And both have absolutely BEAUTIFUL males for sale.

Good luck with your next little guy or girl.

Kevin
