HELP! is this normal for a baby bearded dragon?

my bf’s bearded dragon, while basking, closes his left eye for about 3 secs and then opens it...and repeats it a couple of times...
is that normal??


we are using Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp 75 W

with reptisun 5.0 compact uvb

when we turn it he does it sometimes...

well i know that my, and my friends, close their eyes completely while they bask sometimes, that they are napping. I have never seen a beardie slowly close and open eyes. I dont think anything is wrong as long as the lil guy can see and hunts crickets well dont worry about it.

What type of bulb do you have? any pictures? just snag one off google images or something.

It should be completely dark at night they need to sleep just like you also i would advise against cfls use a linear tube light like a reptisun 10.0 for bearded dragons but thats just my two cents

Yeah these types are notorious for making chams and other herps have eye problems

but why do they still sell them...
my bf's cham had no problem with it...

so what is needed...a reptisun 10.0? and is the basking light ok? or does he use something else?

What size enclosure is the beardie in? You need to determine his basking temp to ensure you have the correct wattage but the bulb type you are using for basking is correct. With UVB yes you want 10.0 for them - linear tube reptisun is good choice.
I've had personal experience with the new Zilla T5 10.0 style linear tubes, burning my beardies!

Whats the cage made of ? Id give the compact Uv a miss anyway, if your enclosure has an open top or you can mount one inside, get a full length tube type. basking light is fine provided it isnt too hot for your enclosure, ensure a good thermal gradient.

Yeah make sure its dark, if you are concerned about heat for night, dragons can be in fairly cool temps at night about 65 degrees, I prefer to keep it about 70 degrees. I have a warm room at night that stays about at 70. You can also use a under tank heater if you need heat at night. Stay away from heat rocks.
