Okay well I have a good size container that I am currently using to breed my Lobster Roaches. Everything was going good till today. I was getting ready to feed my chameleon the roaches when I noticed that at the bottom of the container there was mold! I forgot to remove the veggies, fruit I was using to feed the roaches and now they had grown a lot fuzzy mold on them. I took out all the roaches and cleaned the container real good. I put the roaches back in the same container and now well am not sure what to do? Do I still use them to feed my chameleon? Or are they no good no more? Someone told me just to wait 3-4 before feeding them to my chameleon and also put less food in the container. Please help me out I need your opinions/advice. I dont want to feed my chameleon anything thats not healthy and or is bad for him! Thanks :)

If I were you I would give the roaches clean food for a few days just to clean any mold spores out of their systems. Most mold spores can stay alive even after being eaten and excreated so try to wash the container that they are in everyday until you think all the mold is gone.

Thanks I appreciate that will do that. I cleaned the container and disenfected it. & any more advice?

What I do to avoid mold is to cut a square opening in the lid and hot glue gun screen over it so they can't get out (not that dubias can climb plastic anyway but I don't know about lobster roaches)

if you keep them in a 100% plastic container...the water can't escape and will increase the humidity leading to mold.

ALSO, make sure that your WATER CUBES are not sitting directly on a HEAT SPOT or they will evaporate somewhat quickly...

veggies/fruits will ALWAYS mold you need to feed in small amounts and change out daily/every few days. I personally keep a small amolunt of greens that I rotate, but I also keep a cup of DRIED FOOD (cricket crack) which doesn't mold and they eat that as well.

The roaches themselves should be fine to feed, but if they came in contact with mold I'd probably wash them off first with a simple spray of water or so just in case....as long as there isn't visible mold, I highly doubt there'd be an issue (but I can't say that for "fact"). EDIT: If the above is correct about mold spores, I don't imagine it will be much of an issue as the spores should not be able to germinate in the conditions of your chams enclosure; but you should probably keep a careful watch just incase esp for the first few days.

penicillin was discovered from mold right? how bad can a few tiny mold spores be? I would think the roaches would be fine to feed after a day or two .

LOL, i have an alergy to Penicillin and i eat mouldy cheese  but i would'nt let my Cham eat a insect that lived and ate in a moldy enviournment! What goes in your feeders goes in you Cham!
