It looks to be a little small, the chameleon's nails could get caught up in the mesh. One option is to put a bigger mesh or chicken wire over it to make it easier to climb.

What age/species chameleon are you looking at getting? Some people will tell you that fiberglass screen will breakdown over time and splinter into the chameleon's feet. I have used it before without any problems, however, it was brand new screen and didn't age for ten years. If you use it to house a baby cham in I think it would be fine. There is also a pvc version of screen called 'pet screen' available at lowe's that is not fiberglass.

Fiberglass can be chewed through by crickets in less than a half an hour. Not worth it.

D'oh, hadn't even noticed it was fiberglass.. that's what I get for multitasking I suppose.

You can avoid crickets chewing through it by cup feeding, though... but at the same time it is fiberglass and it can break!

If you bought that from home depot I would go back and see if you can't get the aluminum stuff of the same mesh-size.
There are two home depots where I live. One store had only fiberglass but the other store had the aluminum screening.

yeah i built my cage havent taken any pics of it yet though, but i got my mesh at home depot, i got the black aluminum its a little more pricy compared to its silver counterpart but imo it looks alot better haha. Are you going to be making it out of metal or wood?

i'm going to make it out of wood...does any body have any good idea's on making a wooden cage or tips..that would be great..thnak you

Using what ever kind of wood is ok, it is making sure you seal it really, really well as it will ned to withstand water.

fiberglass isn't a good choice because crickets will eat through it. If your cham doesn't eat all of the crickets this could be an issue...

Try and find aluminum screen.

i used just spruce 2x1's for the framing and that was all the wood i realy used. for the back board of my cages, i used congigated (i think thats what it is) plastic panel, and for the flooring i used plexiglass. for the sides and the door, i used what you are using. fiberglass window screening, because i had a ton of it lying around. it was brand new to begin with and was still rolled. and for the top screen, i initinally had 1/4'' aluminum mesh, but crickets were escaping like crazy and going into the house. i changed this yesterday when i installed my mesh king, and am now using the same width in holes but an aluminum screen now.

well pressure treated wood is teated will allot of chemicals and isnt good for people, when i have made decks out of pressure treated wood i always use gloves, so i would apply the same amount of precaution for him especially because he will be around it 24/7

"The risk of immediate illness from short-term exposure to chemicals from CCA-treated wood is low. Although arsenic can be poisonous at very high doses, the amounts measured on CCA-treated wood are a thousand times less than a lethal dose. The other two elements in CCA, copper and chromium, are relatively less toxic to humans.

While small amounts of arsenic may not be harmful to health in the short-term, it is best to avoid unnecessary exposure because arsenic is a known human carcinogen.

It is not yet known whether long-term exposure to arsenic leaching from CCA-treated wood is sufficient to increase the risk of cancer or other health effects. "

all of that gets sealed in with your stain and sealer, although, because some people think that because it is pressure treated, there is no need to stain or seal, in which there i think a problem can be caused. but other than that, the seal and stain alone, has toxins and chemicals in it. it is all in how you allow it to cure of course. i've handled much pressure treated lumber before and i have never had a reaction to it. are you allergic? im not saying that i would use pressure treated to build cages. the strap spruce that i used was fine enough, it was a bit rough and some pieced were warped, but with everythings screwed together and a good sand with the stain and seal, it turned out great. if i realy wanted to invest, i would have boughten something nicer and stronger, but why do that when you're making two cages at once?
