HELP! please

let me be off to do some research

I have heard little or nothing about Zilla, I am going off to research the brand.

Please check back in a few minutes.

Unlike Zoomed No charts

I like charts, in theory this bulb will be sufficient, but you need to give your guy a perch about 6" directly under it, if possible with a slight gradient to allow him to bask between 6"-7"..

I would then place a third and fourth perch the third about 12" from the top

And the Fourth about halfway up your tank, I would interconnect these "branches" for now with a "fake" vine that is secured, this will enable your guy to go up and down with ease...

You need to get some vines, or sticks in there as soon as possible so he can move up and down his enclosure so he can regulate his temps. The way you have it set up there is no heat radiant for him whatsoever. Being a veiled his basking temps need to be a little higher high 80's to low 90's. Where he is he is getting nothing unless he climbs the cage where he will most likely burn himself on the heat light, and UVB because he will be right on it. He looks a little small to me for 5 months could have been a result of being in that plastic container. Plastic container may be ok for neonates, but by the time they reach two - three months old the need to be on their own and in a proper enclosure. Oh and he will outgrow the new cage you just bought he will need at least a 2'L 2'W 4'T enclosure when he reaches maturity. You can make a dripper as simple as poking a hole in the bottom of a plastic disposable cup. Good luck. :)

If you are leaving him for 7-8 hours.... I suggest an ice cream tub a 1 or 2 litre tub..

Then you use the point of a compass and just prick a small hole from the inside out..

Then take some sellotape and cover the hole on the inside, then get the smallest pin you can find and make a hole in the tape.

this should result in a 1 drip per second flow rate, for now on the bottom of the tank place a towel, and another tub to collect any residual.

Keep us posted

I will update with a picture of my set up tomorrow, as stated 'Fella' is asleep right and I am not going to start turning lights on and using flash photography...

Mind you 'Fella' might associate this with lightning.. still it is not happening.

As I say and will keep saying time here is of the essence.

I personally wouldn't run a dripper for 8 solid hours, but if I did you would be absolutely correct it would take more than a cup. I must say though that's a lot of water to contain, or drain. One drop per minute would equal approximately 1.7 gallons in an eight hour period. And I wouldn't use a towel unless you plan to change it every day wet things that stay wet tend to cause mold, and bacteria. The best thing would be to invest in a good mister like Mist King it cost around $100.00 dollars, but will be the best money you spent. I automate everything from the lights to the mister, and the cool mist humidifier. If you are going to be away for the biggest part of the day it's the only way to go it basically takes care of itself you just have to monitor it every now and then. That way you can focus your attention on what is important your cham.

I run a dripper for 12 hours in both my cages without any ill effects. In the bottoms of my cages I have gallon sized plastic containers, rectangular shaped, each of which is encased in a nylon stocking, which stops either my chameleons or their feeders falling in and drowning, but which still catches the water drips from the plants. Each container is emptied every evening when I return home from work.

I have been using this system for over 6 months and it seems to work brilliantly!

I'm glad that is working for you. If you have the proper amount of plants how do you get it to drip from all those plants into one place? I find if it is not dripping on a leaf they won't drink it.:)

Woah that's nice must machine. I should invest in that sometime in the future.. Well the bottle I'm using is just 14 oz I mist him before I leave. You think hell be okay with not an enormous amount of water. I mist him after I get home from work throughout the evening until the lights go off.

I think so keep an eye on his urates in his poop make sure they are staying white. It sometimes takes them a little while to get the hay I should drink something mentality, but I think 14 oz should do it. Try to put it where it will catch his eye it's the movement that does it just like with their food. :)

He freaks out and tries to jump off everything

yeah he's seems a little weak. and all he wants to do is climb the mesh. he's pooping very little he hasn't been eating much, I've seen him drink water but thats because he was wet from the spray. if i get him and make too many movements he starts to freak out and tries to jump off my hands and i move my hands quicker and he starts crawling faster until i notice he sorta starts getting very weak and tired and then when he finally calms down a bit and lets me put him back he would get agitated again and starts to crawl and climb but he falls down and he would try again and falls down until he does it slowly just climb a little and stays there for a long time in that position. i don't know whats wrong with this guy he even jumps off the branches and bushes

Your freaking him out..

Back off completely for a few days, only go into his space when you need to put in food, or clean out..

Chams take a lot of time and encouragement to trust handling, start with patiently hand feeding..

If you keep on waving your ham fists around him, the stress will eventualy kill him..

Just back off, and monitor from a distance, remember he does not know that he is not on your menu..

Also no offence but your going to be very odd looking to a reptile..

Yah if he is freaking out that bad when you handle him you are stressing him really bad. Like Scoobthenoob said give him some space, and time to tolerate you they very rarely get use to you. But like Scoobthenoob said if you keep stressing your little friend like this he won't be around long stress is bad period for every living thing, but especially reptiles. And if he is jumping off the branches to get away from you he is very scared. Make slow movements around him when you need to be around him. Good luck :)

The plant pots actually sit in the plastic container which catches the water.
