Help! Preparing for a DOA or dehydration from shipping

I'm sick over this- ordered my first panther yesterday, the breeder shipped USPS overnight and showed me the receipt but it never got here and the shipment hasn't even been updated from West coast to East coast.

I called USPS and they have no info of course, besides the proposition he will die before he gets here I am also concerned that dehydration may cause kidney or organ failure that may take weeks to become evident. He was shipped with a starter colony of dubia which can only complicate matters for lack of oxygen and more heat generated.

Has anyone gone through this and if so what should I be on the lookout for? The breeder assured me he would replace the animal if there are issues in the short term but that's a small comfort in considering the long term effects of being subjected to such a torturous ordeal of being boxed up for days in this summer heat.

What should I do?

What age is he? If he's healthy he could likely do ok for a couple days. He may get dehydrated but if you get ahead of it immediately there likely won't be long term damage. Depending on age and conditions when shipping. I suggest buying hornworms immediately if you haven't already that are safe for him to eat as far size. If you don't have an auto mister be prepared to recieve him and put him in a shower immediately.

I had FedEx screw up and my Cham sat in a box for 2 days. I was pissssed.... he arrived a little sluggish and such, but otherwise fine. Gave him a shower and let him adjust, good as new

Don't forget that these animals don't live in the "ideal conditions" that we try to provide for them. They often have to cope for a few days before their conditions improve. Keep on the bright side, keep on the shipper's a$$, and have the shower ready for him as soon as you track him down. Please keep us posted!
