Help with Veiled Chameleon

This is my first post and I am very happy to be on this forum. Me and my family have been discussing getting a Veiled Chameleon. I have been doing a lot of research here on this forum, other websites and reading books on Veils. I have a few questions. I plan on getting my Chameleon for my local pet store. I was told the Chameleon would be 6 months old when he arrives. First question is a MED size cage from Reptibreeze too small or should I go ahead and just get the large size? I took this picture when I was out of town at a different pet store. What I do is I look at there set ups and try my best to visually examine the Chameleons they have in stock and try and use what I have learned in what to look for in a healthy chameleon. My second question is the gray spots on this chameleon normal or is this considered bruising? My last question is if for some reason I don’t buy a chameleon from this pet store(not the store I took the picture of the chameleon). Can anybody recommend a good vendor that is going to be at the Reptile Show that is going to be held in San Antonio in November? I would appreciate any help and recomondations and I apologize if at any point I sounded like a noob. I just want to make sure I am ready and prepared for this. Thanks again.

just make sure he looks all around with his eyes, has straight legs, and he will probably want to move around you alot. also make sure his eyes arent sunken in and hes not making any noises, except if he hisses at you :p !

colors look normal for a lil veiled like that..if you get one thats 6 months old, it will be much larger than a baby, i would just get the largest cage you can find..as for vendors..check the "site sponsors" they all have excellent chameleons, and most are at the shows, spreading knowledge, showing off chams, and having great deals at "show pricing"..remember chameleons reach sexual maturity at about 1 year of age..so if you get a 6 month old..it you will have a half grown chameleon..my male panther just hit 6 months and is now bigger than his female and shes almost a year old....

male 6 months

female 9 months

pretty large for under a year old

so think, LARGE for caging..

welcome to the forum and good on you for doing your research. I would defiantly consider waiting until the expo to find your chameleon as stated check the vendors list for the expo and cross reference to the site sponsors, you then could most likely contact the breeders that interest you and possibly make arrangements for a Chan and get all the info to start you in the right direction.

The site sponsors don't go to the San Antonio shows. They're great shows but more local. There is one vendor that will have a lot of chams but I wouldn't recommend purchasing one from him. Younger kid, big table with lots of chams (I think it's GM Reptiles or something). He doesn't do any breeding, all of his chams are wild caught and imported and he's gotten in trouble for lying about it before. I wouldn't recommend supporting his business practices. Unfortunately he's usually the one with the most chams there. There are some other vendors that always have a few, usually cb veileds so I would buy from them if you get one at the show. Otherwise I'd recommend ordering one from one of the big breeders once it gets a little cooler down here.

definatley dont support the kid from (??gm reptiles??) or whatever..go for one of the larger vendors..as for me im cheap..so i went with LLLREPTILE but they are right down the street from me.. either way good luck..if not already, you will be obcessed with chameleons before you know it..ive been goin on strong for 18 years now..LOL just cant help it..:D
