Im going to get a chameleon but I dont know which one.
can someone help me pick

It has to be under $50 and colorful

Is there anything that I need to do for my first cham?

Lots of research!!!
You will need to spend 300-400 just on the cage and accessories to do it right.

Before you consider the chameleon read the Care Resources links.

https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/chameleons/

That will help you decide what you want, and can afford. You might get a chameleon for $50 but the setup will cost a few hundred and the ongoing care for feeders and things is not cheap.

Not sure what you mean by colorful but if you are looking at the Panther chameleons rather than veiled, you will not get one for $50. They are a few hundred dollars and up. Mine were approximately $350 each, just for the chameleons. I have spent a lot more than that on enclosures, lighting, feeders, plants....

You really need to read everything and learn how to take care of your new pet before you get one. You want your new pet to live a long healthy life, so you have to know the right way to take care of it.

I spent 300 alone just on one enclosure, then probably an additional 150 or so on accessories (lights, branches, humidifier, etc)....so 50 bucks isn't really going to get you far at all.
Perhaps going through the Care Resources along with tons of Googling about chameleon care along with the needs of the different types of chameleons to see if you are able to commit to such a pet and if it's really a pet you want.
