so i found out here that the reason my 10 month old veiled female keeps diging holes is due to her wanting to lay her eggs. So i was told to set up an area with wet play sand so she can dig her hole.. heres my set up: but the problem is that she keeps digging around the bottom till the pit collapses and she gets trapped..2 times i had to dig her out already.. what am i doing wrong? and i dont want her to die cause she cant lay her eggs!! sry im a noob at this
BTW the pet shop guy sayed the bucket is to small and i should get a 5 gallon bucket

yea it should be pretty deep but make sure the sand isnt 2 dry cuz then it wont stay up

I use peet moss and play sand mixed together. the peetmoss is 60% of the mix. it should be wet enough to hold it's form. If you have a trash can, use that instead of that laying bin. Also, don't let her see you when she is digging. she needs privacy. if she sees other animals or you or other humans she will stop digging and dig another hole. the hole is a secret... no one is to know where it is

like I said, you a clean trash bin, fill it about 12" with dirt and place her in there with a light on top.... she'l prolly hit the dirt digging.

Oh, poor baby!

Yes, a deeper bin and the sand should be moist enough that you can dig out a stable tunnel with your finger. You don't have to dig down 12 inches. But you should be able to dig out a tunnel the length of your finger that is maybe 2 inches in diameter and have it stay open...

hiya, i make mine out of bricks, 3 high and 4 long. i used a peat/ sand and spagnum moss mix, i sprayed it every day to keep it moist. this worked for mine, she laid 43 eggs. Hope this helps.

its for water.. its what the pet shop recogmended and im please to announce that i did the half and half peat moss and a bigger binn and she just layed her eggs!!

The pet shop told you wrong about the water dish. Chams don't drink standing water. How long have you had her? Now would be a good time to fill out this form so we can help you with husbandry issues that might cause problems.

Ive just read the water dish part and i have two chameleons that drink from water falls as most dont drink from water dishes, BUT i have 1 other one that does, he had really bad MBD before i got him and he is recovering really well, but even though he has a waterfall he prefers to drink out of a water dish. I do agree though they do prefer drippers or waterfalls. Congratulations on the eggs!!!!

A waterfall? How long have you had it and they have been drinking from it? Waterfalls are known to harbor bacteria and cause health issues. I would love to see the pics of all of this and your chams, sounds interesting.

Feeding - i feed her crickets that i get at the pet shop and usualy 4-6 a day
Supplements - every other day and REPTIVITE
Watering -I have a drinking cup and i mist once a day?
Fecal Description - it has not been tested and everything looks normal to me?
History -all i know it she was super healthy when i got her from underground reptiles
Cage Info:
Cage Type - screen

Lighting - 12 hour lighting with the ulb lights and a regular heat lamp
Temperature - 75 to 85
Humidity - i have no way of testing that but i live in florida we have a pretty humid weather
Plants - no
Placement -its far away fro all the ac stuff and about 3 feet from the floor
Location - south florida

Get rid of the substrate and the Eucalyptus. Go to Walmart or Lowes and get a Schefflera-wash it in dish soapy water-rinse the heck out of it, and either repot in organic soil or cover the soil with rocks large enough that she cannot eat them or even screening. Once a day is too much handling. You should be using a NO D3 calcium 5-6x weekly and if you don't set her out in the sun a calcium with D3 1-2 x monthly and the Reptivite once monthly. Mist twice daily-getting your new live plant that you will get nice and drippy-ditch the water dish. Do you know which UVB light specifically you have and how old it is? They need to be replaced every 6 -9 months. Feed that girl well over the next few days as she just laid eggs, dusting a litte heavier with the calcium for the next few days. Then maybe go to every other day feeding to keep her from cycling large clutches.

Julirs is very experienced and taking her advice right away will help improve matters greatly. Please read the Basic Husbandry link I gave you. If you can order some hornworms and silkworms that would also help your little girl recover from laying. They are both excellent at re-hydrating and silkies have calcium. Laying takes alot out of females so they are a little more high maintenance than males (go figure). Please keep us updated and ask any questions and we will be glad to help.

Don't feel bad, it happens all the time. Maybe you could take some of the stuff back to the pet store.
