Herbert tries to eat his goldfish brother

Thanks man. The video was meant to be funny. I feel like most of the people that replied worry way too much. He is obviously healthy and enjoying himself. I've had iguanas, geckos, anoles, turtles, and a 72g bow front saltwater reef tank with all kinds of corals, exotic fish, and inverts. The reef tank was way more high maintenance than Herbert will ever be.
I appreciate their concerns but feel like they are unwarranted at this point. I will continue to use my drip plant that he has used since I got him, let him out of his cage and go on the goldfish bowl, and let him explore his territory (the living room). Here is another one of his favorite spots. He'll sit here for over an hour which is when I normally take him back to warm up. See the curled tail? He obviously loves it. I won't be surprised if people tell me that this is bad for his health and he'll get ran over by the car.

It was funny. Chams do the most hilarious things.

It's called adulting. If you can't keep a conservative tone, leave the post alone and don't reply
Totally agree with you.
My goodness. It's a chameleon on a fish bowl. There's no reason at all to harass this gentlemen about it, it's a funny video. I think sometimes people forget that chameleons don't come from bacteria free worlds and drink purified water every day in the wild. The term "horror story" is oversued and over dramatic. As @Extensionofgreen said, if need be, don't comment.

And then I see the comments attacking the OP about his gold fishes health? Come on. Take that non sense else where. These are the kind of comments and threads that make the forum look bad. If you want to attack someone, at least do it in a private message.

Your Veiled looks great by the way!

Woah!!!! Everybody lets take a breather.. Geez. Nice veiled btw.. Let's inform, educate, share Cham pics, evolve the Cham keeping hobby and move on.

Is that your veiled in your profile pic? And are those his natural colors or is there a light causing the blue color? Regardless, beautiful looking chameleon. Did you purchase it from an online breeder with a certain bloodline or did you just luck out with a very colorful one? I appreciate your post and all of the other positive ones in this thread.

He has that blue green hue when he gets excited or upset really, I bought this little guy from a local reptile shop, he's usually on the darker muddier side, he gets greener when he's outside his cage wondering around my apartment or outside.

Yes, I agree, a little longer aquarium would be best, for the goldfish ( I kept fish, salt and fresh, at one time ), but the trouble is, that instead if saying, " Hey, I happen to know about fish and things would be better this way, for these reasons.", the approach is an attack, first on one subject and now another. The fact of the matter is that "experts" following easily researched protocol are living off the scraps visionaries and innovaters lay down. Anyone can be an expert, because they regurgitate a care sheet or incubation temps verbatim, but a true expert has not had the way paved by others, has dealt with and overcome challenges, has no ego, and can relate to people in a way conducive to educating them and improving the lives of their animals.
The other fact is, no one knows anything, as an expert, because you can read the often touted blog about chameleon gutloads and have the same person endorsing gutloads with ingredients listed as not advised on said blog, because NO ONE really knows the exact amounts of vitamins and minerals each chameleon needs. There is not a single person better than another here, only ones who know better and ones who don't. If you don't know better than to relate to other keepers on a human level, rather than degrading, accusing, and insulting them, then you are in the same group of keepers that make newbie inquiries in mistakes. I have ZERO respect for anyone, PhD, breeder, long-term keeper, or otherwise, that treat others like they know everything and have the final word. News Flash! The final word is in nature, where chameleons live free of human interference, ego, and opinions, and that's the only "expert" I follow.

I know people just want what's best for these guys but I am sure he is absolutely fine. It was a funny video for sure! I've showed it to a few friends even.

Considering that he was a little goldfish "rescued" from county fair 5 years ago and then grew into a healthy adult goldfish in that very bowl, I'd say he's doing just fine. I regularly change his water and clean his bowl. He is thriving and will continue to do so for many years to come.

I would be willing to bet a good chunk of change that your goldfish is stunted, not full grown.

You can defend your subpar pet keeping all you want, but I assure you that the way you're keeping that fish is substandard.

Read up on goldfish some time. You'll probably be surprised at how much you're doing wrong.

I don't think this is funny but I generally don't like any videos of animals interacting with other animals because too often this gets viewed as something that is ok by people who don't know how to be responsible about it and regardless of the level of care you had someone else will think this is funny and try to replicate with less favorable results. I think the Chameleon is probably fine and am not going to comment on the chameleon care as I agree with those who are saying we can't be 100% certain this is detrimental.

I do think that the goldfish being shot at can't be a pleasant or nice thing for the goldfish.

I have 4 tiny comet goldfish my wife insisted on keeping about 5 years ago. They range from 6 to 9 inches now after being stunted in a 10 gallon for too long. They are in a 40 gallon Breeder with 2 sponge filters and carbon filter that runs at about 60 GPH and I still think they need a bigger tank. If I were you I think you can get a nice 20 gallon (I personally think a 20 long is ideal for a single goldfish) with a sponge filter for relatively inexpensive and your little goldfish will love you for it (make up for him getting shot at) :)

Just remember many of the people here aren't really mean, they just love animals and want the best for them, please take it in that light and try not to get offended.

I wish I were a moderator. The people making attacks, instead of suggestions, regardless of motives, are a plague and roadblock to education and progress, towards improving the lives of captive animals. This thread needs to be closed and/or some people warned to cool their jets, since they've never apparently heard the Frozen movie theme song, LET IT GOOOOOOOOOO!
