Hi guys I have never seen a Yemen like this

judging by the new photos, she appears slightly more “opaque”. is that what you’re seeing? are any organs really visible through her skin?

i had mentioned in an earlier post that i wouldn’t be surprised if she had shedding issues, much like silkback beardies. i believe a little Skin-So-Soft helps a lot of those silkies shed properly.

Well I thought she looked less opaque! Unfortunatly we can not see her organs through the skin. That would be soo cooll. And yes very much like a 'silk back' :D

Both parents come from a long line of low pied, VERY LOW. The other looks normal at the moment. This was my worst hatch rate by a long long way. The eggs were layed months after being introduced to the male and took twelve months to hatch. I normaly only lose one or two eggs from a clutch this clutch fourty-eight laid, two hatched. This has never happened to me before.

I wonder if this was a double recessive gene with high mortality. With that type of die off this may be a near lethal gene expression.

Awesome, congrats on the baby!

A little bit of shed-aid might help. Mineral oil works too, you just don't want to overdo it. Silkie bearded dragons do a lot better with regular soaks and a bit of help with the oil once in a while, it could be with the funky skin on this one, it needs a bit of extra TLC in that department too.

Keep us posted! :) Great seeing the pictures, I'm curious how it all pans out too.

That is an extremely unique Veiled Chameleon. With how delicate chameleons can be when it comes to health issues I wish this one the best and hope she survives. If she does survive it would be interesting to see if mutations, such as skin mutations as Dr. O mentioned, actually become a part of the hobby. Especially with how delicate chameleons can be compared to other reptiles.

there’s some areas of her abdomen that seem to have some changes in opacity—— if you took a COOL small LED bulb and “candled” her abdomen in a dark room, i wonder if you might have some more visibility than expected?? perhaps a beating heart? i would certainly try it if she were here!

I will give that a go, never thought to do that. Thanks.

Okay it is at an end.
The little one died last night after going down hill over the last two weeks. It goes without saying the parents will never be bred again. Her sister is doing well though as the only survivor of the clutch.

So very sorry for your loss. I didn't see this thread when it first started, but congratulations on being able to work with such an incredible animal. I'm sure she appreciated everything that you have done for her, and thank you very much for posting the pictures and sharing your experience of hatching and raising one.

Again, sorry for the loss of such an interesting Chameleon, it definitely goes to show that nature is truly beautiful. Even when it's in the confinement of someones home. I hope this doesn't deter you from breeding chameleons again. It seems as if you really enjoyed it.

Oh no. I am so sorry. Such a unique little one; I was hoping to see how she turned out as she got older. Thanks for letting us share the experience with you!

RIP little one. :(

:( I was hoping this little one would grow and develop bc it was such a unique baby. Sorry for your loss.

my condolences...she certainly was special! as you said, it was surprising that she lived as long as she did. but her little star shined brightly! I'm glad she had a comfortable life, and that you were able to experience something unusual.
