I don't have a chameleon at the moment but thinking about getting a veiled and trying to read up as much as I can. I currently have 2 bearded dragons, 5 Whites tree frogs, and 2 cats.

I'd like to put real plants in my vivarium and I'd like to get that set up and running before anything. My first question is about the UVB light. I like the tube style fluorescents, if I have a planted tank will my UVB light be enough to keep the plants alive or do I need to have a separate light for plant growth?

Idk about some plants but the ones I've used have done great with reptison 5.0 uvb tubed bulbs.

Also you may want to use a screen cage for ventilation. Chameleons can get sick from poor ventilation.

Welcome to the group. One thing you will need a screen cage not a tank. Yes you can have live plants which is recommended. Read over the care sheets. I recommend lights from lightyourreptile.com. They are the best on the market today. Bulbs last a year instead of around 6 months.

Yes we are planning on a screen cage. Just didn't know the proper term to call it. I usually say everything is in a tank, I wish I could put my cats in one LOL!

Do you use the Reptisun 5.0 T5 or the T8 bulbs? We just switched to the T5's for our bearded dragons and I love them but not sure if it's too much UVB for the chameleon.

What plants have you used?

I'll check them out!

I believe a t5 but I'll have to check.

Plants: spider plant (my veiled's favorite when she was a baby and main hiding spot), umbrella plant, Benjamin ficus and some vines.

Thanks for the welcome!

I was thinking I would definitely get a spider plant. I watched a YouTube video of someone decorating a cage and I thought the spider plant was so pretty.

Check over our plant safe list, not sure if the spider plant is on there. I have two plants, umbrella and a pothos. Go over the care resources section on the left side of any page.
