Just wondering if anyone had some insight as to whether it is okay to put a live hibiscus in with cham's??? I thought it was okay but want to make sure before I buy them for my chams...
I tried but it died quite dramatically very quickly. I even had a grow light on it. I've heard it's best to use them like jcal suggested, rotate a few to only be inside for short amounts of time or it will die. Scheffeleras or especially pothos are much more resilient in my experience. I haven't been able to kill a pothos yet
i only have 2 hibiscus that have not died...lol....and i've had to be very careful about not thinning out the ficus too much because of how sparse looking a couple have gotten.... my favorite that we have right now is a camelia....it's been pretty "hardy" so far and still has pretty flowers.... =)
it was funny because i was keeping a cham at work for a week because of needing to medicate it....so i had a cage set up with the lights and all, hand misting during the day....and one of my co-workers saw it, but didn't see the cham... after day two, she asked me about what kind of plant i had in there and was really surprised it wasn't something "exotic". she thought i had it all set up just for the plant and i just REALLY liked my plant... lmao.
I have two Hibiscuses in jack’s cage and they are doing great and bloom all the time. I have two double fixtures with one 5.0 and three 2.0. They will lose a lot of leaves when you transplant or repot them but they should recover. I broke the tap root on one of mine and it dropped 80% of its leaves and I thought for sure it was going die but it bounced back after about a month and still bloomed the entire time. Jack loves eating the leaves but does not know what to make of the flowers I think he is scared of them.
