home from the vet

Ok so I originally thought my chameleon had a possible U.R.I. turns out my vet thinks it's just slightly like an infection in the nasal cavity sort of like how humans get sinus infections. He did say that he had a little bit of mucous near his nasal cavity which I saw, it looked like a little clear string - he took a sample of it and it came back with very little cells, there was a tiny microbe in there but the vet wasn't so worried about it because he said it could just be the mucous. He gave me Ceftazidime 1ml. which I have to inject into my little guy every 4 days and also gave me Metacam 1.5 mg which I give orally every 3 days. I go back in two weeks so he can check him out again to make sure there is no more mucous or eye junk but he said if anything gets worse or if I'm worried to call right away!! He said that my enclosure and lighting is correct and that I do not have to change anything just maybe get he humidity a little higher.

At first I did suspect a U.R.I. because he did have some eye goo for 2 mornings which I was able to get out with a warm q-tip and then I did hear him like breathing which almost sounds like when a human just breathes out their nose forcefully - he said that it could just be the mucous in the nasal cavity. I did see my cham open his mouth last night like open close open close very fast and did see that little string of mucous so I was extremely worried. Guess I will see how he is doing the next couple days with the medication, just wanted to get any thoughts or opinions others might have and give an update on my little man!!

What vet did you go to ? - It sounds like he knows chameleons- which is hard to find.
A cool mist humidifier might help with the humidity - but I see your in NJ also and I don't think it will be as much of a problem in the weeks to come. I have one of the crane humidifiers that I sit outside my jackson's cage - I had tubes hooked up but it's easier to keep clean without them - and my humidity levels are pretty high even with out it -

West Trenton animal hospital and dr wilson- it was very hard to find a vet who took reptiles, he said he isn't an expert but does see some chameleons but I was his first panther ever so he was extremely excited- he seemed to know slot and he was very friendly I definitely recommend !! I will have to look into a humidifier !!!!
