Hey guys, I added some new "toys" for EC. Ok, sticks. lol I had a nice collection adventure and bleached and soaked them and baked them at 350f for 30 minutes and he is seeming to love his new ways to traverse and has a new sleeping spot. :)

That's cool. I always wanted to go find some sticks myself, but I never could decide on a way to clean the sticks properly. I'm going to have to try that.

Ya its fun : ) Its good to just soak em in bleach, then wash the heckk out of them with scolding hot water for a good 20 minutes or so. Then soak them in clean water for a while...then I always bake them in the oven for a half an hour. I think both are legitimate on their own, but I do both. lol Some times the last soak can make the longer sticks bend enough to fit in the oven

i just throw branches into the cage... sometimes i will whittle off the bark and let them sit in the sun to dry completely. but if its a dry stick, i think this baking and bleaching stuff may be overrated.

yeah me too, i don't really do to much to sticks and branches from outside

I used to just collect sticks and whittle them and assumed that everything was fine seeing that anything being on the surface of the wood would be long gone, but I sort of got scolded for that by a breeder and ever since EC's first parasite a while back and the bitch of a process it was treating it, force feeding and giving him water and such (because the pinworm came with a month long hunger and water strike) I realized how much I never wanna do that again. So Im preTTy precautionary now-a-days.

I just rinse the sticks I find out side and place them in the cages. I haven't noticed any problems.

I wouldn't assume there ever would be, unless somehow the sticks were infested with parasitic bugs for some weird reason. lol I just do what I do : )

So my cage is 8 feet tall how should I clean branches that long?

8 Ft? That is one tall cage! Anyway, I bleach the branches and rinsed them and let it sun dry for a couple of days...if you go up to Valyermo you will find lots good size branches, lots of poplar and oak and if you go on Bouquet Canyon Rd. you will find lots of eucalyptus and cherry...my favorite are cherry branches...

I got a cherry branch in it now. Yea the cage is 4' deep 4' wide and 8' tall the door is 6' a bit over kill but they will be happier and thats the goal

Bake them outside in the sun, it is so hot anyway...I can't stand this heat...when is supposed to get cold anyway?...
