Hornworm/Panther Issue

I'm not able to get my Panther's to eat hornworms at all. They wont even give them an interesting look. Anyone else run into this issue?

I've tried hornworms from 0.75 inches to 3 inches, feeding to nearly full grown pather male and females. I've tried first thing in the morning. I've tried all day. I've tried forcing them into it, but eventually, after a 3 day hunger strike from both of them, I eventually gave in and gave them some meal worms.

They were looking lean and cruising every inch of the cages looking for food, yet, they had hornworms everywhere. They just weren't interested.

I even had hornworms schriveling up and dying when I threw them out.

Here's their set up for a visual:

Hmmmmm

Well with my old Cham he did the same thing. Try to put the horn worms on the side of the cage on the screen. And see if that works if that doesnt work try to rub BBQ sauce on them. If they dont eat them then......ill eat em haha. But in all honesty my old cham did that and I just tried the worms on the wall trick and next thing I knew I was sitting at my computer with the cage 2 feet from me. And I heard a quick thud on the screen cage and my hand got wet from the moisture from the misters on the cage next thing I knew he ate 3 within 10 mins. Hope this helps. :D

maybe the hornworms werent moving around enough for your chameleons to recognize them as potential prey.

you could try offering one by hand, irritating it so that it wiggles. Maybe that will catch the chameleons attention. After they associate the hornworms to food, you shouldnt have to hand feed anymore.

It could just be your cham as well. Mine has gone crazy over them since the first day I brought some home.

My Nosy Be Moe does not eat hornworms. Here is what happened last time I offered him one... He found an alternative use for it other than eating. I have to say, it does look comfortable :D

Thanks for the advice Sandra. However, they are moving alot, and the Cham's are see them. They're just not interested as far as food. It's odd. I suppose that's a good sign though, if they're not interested in other food then I suppose they must be getting all the nutrients they need from their current diet.

it was always hard for me to introduce new foods to my chams. i dunno what to tell ya except keep trying and dont waste too much money on wasted feeders lol

I guess yours is one of those chams that has no interest in hornworms. It happens. Luckily, they're not an important feeder.
