Hornworms are digging in! How long now?(with pics)

Some of my hornworms are digging into the ground. How long until they re-emerge?

Karma wondering when she gets to eat a moth.

I had mine room temp in my herp room (ave 72 degrees) and it took a good month to get moths. Don't know about nutrition facts, but I fed them as a fun treat! They are great to watch!

The worms grew way too big for my chams. I figured what the heck lect them pupate and see what we get.

The main thing to keep in mind when feeding your cham is.....you don't want the prey so big that they choke or get impacted. The rule of thumb is, don't offer food larger than the space between their eyes. However there are exceptions to every rule. If it's a soft feeder like horn/silk worms, it can be larger. I would say that if it were me, I would not give him anything you don't think he can handle based on the rule.

how old is Karma?

It can take quite a while for the moths to emerge. They are quite large.
But, nothing an adult chameleon can't handle.

My melleri LOVE the moths. Generally, between all the chams and the beardies, all my hornworms all get fed off before they can get too big, but occasionally, there will be a couple that are too big and I will let them pupate and then feed off the moths, but only to the bigger species such as melleri.

This sounds like a great idea. I just got a bunch of hornworms. I'll just pupate a few and feed my oustalet some moths. Hopefully he doesn't get hooked on hornworm moths like he did on superworm beetles (he's only had 4 or 5 of those, but he flat out attacks them).

I don't know how but I've got some time to figure it out. So far only 3 have dug in but I'll have more.

yes. They pupate in the ground.
