Hornworm's Horn

So I finally got my guy some silkworms and hornworms. Do I need to de-horn the hornworms? I don't want him to get stabbed or anything. Thanks!

Don't worry about the horn. worry about them biting your cham in the face while being chewed. it will be all right.

The horn on the hornworm is really just for "show" and doesn't have to be removed before feeding. Hornworms can grow very fast...not sure what size you are feeding, but that's always good to know.

If you have any more questions about hornworms, just ask, we breed and sell them.

Hope that helps.

Well he loves them and they have quadrupled in size in just a few days!! Also since I saw the hornworm poop, I think I know what Grape-Nuts are made from:D! Thanks everyone for the input.

I recommend buying hornworm eggs, that way you hatch them yourself and when they are approaching the size you want you can start putting them in the refrigerator for a day at a time to slow their growth. I have had great success with a day in and a day out and can get them to last for 3-4 weeks that way. They are one of the feeders that i find very easy to breed and care for.

I read about getting eggs etc. but wanted to see if he liked them before I ordered a bunch of eggs. Its funny what one might find in the refrigerator of a chameleon mom! He likes the silkies too so it will be bug smorgasboard at my house.
