Hornworms..how many?

Jay
Thanks for the info but I went home from work last night and put them in the fridge:eek: will check when I get home today (took out this morn.)
Vince
Thanks for your posts and I know what you mean it is hard to sift through all the info available and decide who is right or what is right for your cham.
I've read cham books with info that will work but is not the best for your cham. We were told at first to feed him what ever he will eat while he is young as he will not over eat... I tend to agree with some of the senior members (and Germans) that in the wild they would not get near as much food as we give them, and still live healthy lives. As for the over eating that is why I asked this question, my veiled has never left any food in his dish ever no matter how much you put in. example 15 1/2" crix gone in 3 min. and he will eat another 15 at 5pm ( before someone chimes in we don't do this anymore )
thanks again for all your posts

OK you do have a piglet.:) I do agree 100%, that under our care they eat way more than in the wild. But i have never witnessed a cham eat as much as yours. I have herd of veilds eating a lot but that is a LOT. And yes you are right it can be frustrating sifting through all the info.

Obviously you know what what your kiddo needs and i apologize for throwing out shoty info. You learn something new everyday and today i have learned chameleons will over eat.:D

No apology needed Vince hopefully we all live and learn, that's what we're here for!
The amount he will eat still blows me away but not once even when we were over feeding him did we ever find undigested parts in his fecal so I have no idea where they put it all.( well besides almost double the size every month)

Thanks Jann I have read that and many other posts about food which was why I have adjusted my feeding ALOT. Brad Ramsey also had very good information on all this.
The bottom line for me is health, I don't care if he grows to 2' or 6" as long as he's healthy.

Thanks so hopefully my worms will still be alive when I get home. I have no experience with hornworms except killing them on my tomatoes so I appreciate the info!

my green horns took forever to grow? I have had them for over a month and still smaller then I thought they would be.

chamer
What are you feeding them?
Mine are eating pre-made hornworm chow that came with them and they do grow fast.
My worry was them being too big but that won't be a problem as I feed off the larger ones and let the small ones grow.
Only bought a dozen but Goggles seems to really love em.

Terry, they came in a container with the food but were very small and I thought they were dead! fianally they started moving but again I just feed 3 of them and have 2 more but that is all that lived out of the 15 that came with it. I will not try them again, did much better with the silk worms. In fact I need more before I go away next week and wonder do you ever buy them from one and other on the site if close to you?

Depending where you are you could use some of the site sponsors and have them shipped if there is not a store close to you.

i am in Tampa FL.. Who are the site sponsor? Mulberry farms etc? If so I bought and shipped from one in FL for the last time I got them, but again I do not have time to ship right now and I do not know of any store that carries slik or horn worms.

Sorry chamer I'm in Canada and can't be of much help to you in Florida.
Maybe start your own thread and ask some members if they know of any stores in your area. They have been very helpful to me so far.
