How cold is too cold?

Hi all. :)

My first cham is supposed to be getting shipped tomorrow for arrival on Tuesday. Its an approx 3 month old male ambilobe.

I just checked the weather here for Tuesday, and it says 70|47 F, along with 90% chance T-storms. I know that doesn't sound like good shipping weather, but is it still do-able and safe? Will the seller need to pack in heating pads?

Also forgot to mention, its coming from somewhere in Cali and going to Louisiana. I dont know if distance makes an impact or not.

Your cham will be fine. Trust when I say breeders check the weather and pack accordingly.

Ok, good to know that it should be fine. :) About a week ago though, I told the guy that the weather should be fine enough to ship without a heating pad. I didn't expect it to suddenly change, and I don't think hes checked since then. Should I tell him to pack one anyway?

Okay, thanks. Yeah, im pretty paranoid about it, haha. I dont want to mess this up in any way if I can. Its bad enough that im going to be in school when its supposed to arrive. When it gets here, my parents are going to have to open it up and put it in its cage themselves. They dont know a thing about caring for it and I wont be getting home until several hours later. /:

Who did you order from? I think your parents or anyone should be able to open a box, open a cup and set it inside a cage. ;) I think all reputable breeders check weather, and garentee live arival...

Im ordering from a guy named Alex. I posted on these forums a while back asking around for an inexpensive male ambilobe, and he shot me a message. Hes not a bigtime breeder or from any mainstream site that I know of, thats why I was asking. I didnt know anything about him other than that he had what I wanted (saw the pictures), and for cheap. XD

that sounds like really good shipping weather to me.
Not too hot, not too cold.
Panthers can take it down to 50 nights without problem.
Plus the shipper will probably use a heat pack anyway.

If you are buying from a big breeder then they should know how to pack and ship in different weather conditions and how to check the weather in the part of the country that they are shipping to.

He isn't buying from a big breeder, he said that is one of his concerns.

If he's not use to shipping all the time then I would share this thread linked below with him and find out how he's shipping. If UPS then you will also need to check the weather in Louisville, KY because the cham will change planes there and sit around in the middle of the night for a few hours. You'll also need to check temps where he's coming from and where he's going to. Hope this helps. https://www.chameleonforums.com/shipping-babies-tell-me-how-do-41072/

Im not sure how used he is to shipping or anything. Im trying to get a hold of him to find out if he shipped it yet or not, but im not getting an answer. I need to know so I can go out and get the crickets for tomorrow. /: I got it for 220, and as far as I know this is his only ambilobe.

Does anyone know around what time of day people usually ship? He said he would text me when he shipped it, and he told me he was shipping today, but I got no text.

I ship last thing in the evening right before UPS closes. That way the cham spends the least amount of time in the box.

Oh. Thats good to hear I guess, that could be why I haven't gotten a reply back.

No, it wasn't an ad. I posted on here asking around for a young male ambilobe, and my budget was 220. He responded and sent pictures of the little guy, and the sellers name is Alex.

Did he send you a PM or contact you by email?

Good news. Got in touch with him over the phone. Turns out he had a family emergency, and hes going to have to wait to ship it until the 23rd. Im going to have to wait a little longer, that kinda sucks, but hey, at least I got some information from the call. :) Hes going to be a beautiful little boy, he was the pick of the litter and he had planned on keeping him himself, but couldnt because he was out of room.
