how do you fire up your chameleon?

i just wanted to sak a quick question on how you fire up your chameleon, because ive tryed everything (for photo purposes)

what do you do?

My male veiled's arch nemesis is a 16 oz plastic party beverage cup that is bright yellow.
He flattens and hisses, his tail coils and uncoils, he turns as yellow as the cup.

I have only shown it to him a couple of times ... the first was by accident ... but I always make the cup "run away in fear" so my boy feels like he won the challenge.

Oh Brad..I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at that visual.

However I've done the same! And it seems like there's that random object for every chameleon. For Otto it was the blue plaid underside of the bill of my ball cap. Weird. I totally figured it out by accident and then later used it while photographing - ball cap in left hand, camera in the right hand.. but the ball cap always ran away in fear.

It is pretty funny.
I used the cup (initially) to water the plants in the enclosures ... but no more, too stressful.
They do really seem to respond to color ... more than a reflection.
My suggestion is to keep trying bright colors until you get a response. Then, don't do it too often and always make the colored object "run away in fear!"

my veiled hates "himself" and my bearded dragon. i showed him to pinto (bearded dragon) he wanted to eat it soo bad. he got so mad.

I can only get my young boy to fire up at the site of him self. I tend to where bright colors so I guess he has got use to that. LOL However the new boy I got for X~mas has issues with color so I am careful around him and where a dull green when handling him.:

Mine fires up when he sees my leather glove! I can't use it to pick him up, however he's a reall pussy and I don't need it.

I recently put a slightly colorful grasshopper in with mine for food but he saw it as a predator and colored up and flattened himself out turning his side towards it to make himself look bigger. I had to remove it, fortunately my beardy ate it instead!

Because I was stuoid and not paying attention I put my male in a hibucus tree I was moving and it was near a mirror. He had to "discover" the other male in the mirror then watch out. If I hold him near a mirror he seems to know the other one in the mirror is him. no fire up. But then i have a pretty shart cham.lol

i have a hard time too getting my guy to fire up, but every once in a while the pink camera my girlfriend has will piss him off, but really it depends on his mood, i have tried boy chams, girl chams, mirrors, colors, and most of the time he could care less.

I have a little mirror, the rectangle ones with a magnet on the back, when I hold this up to my cham, he will fire up really nicely (see avatar) I don't do it too often, but I did try it again the other day and this time, he not only fired up, he came towards it and pushed it with his nose, so hard he almost knocked it out of my hand!

I found the smaller mirror to be better then a big wall mirror because you can make the mirror come up from underneath the cham. He feels more comfortable and dominant in this position and it will show in his colour

If I want to get my ambilobe Dooku fired up I get Larry Jr out my male veiled. Its kinda funny. I took Larry out to weight him and I see Dooku 10 feet away inside his cage puffed up. When Dooku sees any other panther male he will fire up....but when he sees Larry Jr he really throws some colors.
