How do your chams like hornworms?

Pedro hates them.
He ate about 2 at first then wouldnt eat the rest :/
That was a 20 dollar cup!!!

So I tried again and yet another wasted cup :(

Im planning to try again though :) maybe he'll change his mind lol :D

What helps sometimes is not to feed your cham a day or two in advance.... then cool the worms so they don't grow too fast. Then you should feed in a day or two again and he will be hungry to keep eating them.

keeping hornworms in the fridge for half a day will slow their eating down and keep them from growing too fast. hornworms should be mixed with other food items because they aren't a good staple food.. so if you can get a cup of mixed sized worms to help prolong the cup, you should be successful in providing a range of food for your cham.

I am not saying it is OK to feed WC horn worms.... but.... I have met long time chameleon keeper who said that they have raised and fed off HWs that were eating tomato plants.... I am not saying to do it, but someone did and didn't have issue

I was doing this as well before I found out hornworms that had fed on tomatoe plants were toxic with no problems either. Of course I stopped when I found out this was supposedly bad, but it never caused my veiled cham any problems.

I read somewhere that hornworms will only eat a certain type of "chow." I know very little about these guys but I just ordered some to feed my guy in the near future. Could it be that whomever posted what I read had these worms mixed up with Silkworms? If they will eat anything then I am set.

I give my hornworms carrots and greens. They run right through them!

I almost forgot!
If you're looking for a diverse supply of Hornworms (and other feeders) I strongly suggest you try Great Lakes Hornworm, on of the forum sponsors.

I tried them a month or so ago and got both cups sizes of hornworms.
When I received them the heat had sped up a growth spurt and they were almost too large to give to my adult veiled! (I had bought the 25 count cup for my small panther)
I let them know what happened, and with my next order they included 2 free cups!
I also ordered a batch of mid-size superworms and got alot more than I expected!
give em a try when looking for feeders and definitely for Hornworms!
