How fast do chams actually change colors?

Im sure most of you have probably seen this youtube video of a veiled cham drastically changing colors everytime this dude puts a pair of glasses in front of him but can anyone tell me what the normal rate of color change is in regards of calm to stressed or angry? Also do chams (panther, vieled, jacksons...) normally stay these great colors as advertised on sites like screamelons or kammerflage etc, etc, or are they normally some greeenish hue in thier normal day to day state?

Alot of the pictures you see of the gorgeous breeders are in their fired up state but chameleons can still show awesome colors when they are in their resting state also. I ran a thread yesterday called "Lime Green Sambava" that is my cham basically just hanging around on my patio. He was not stressed or fired up. When he is fired up then his background is yellow which does not happen too often! A Sambava is normally green, some of the other panthers are an array of different colors in their resting states. Not all are green.

usually only a few seconds... maybe 5 to 10 seconds.. depending on the situation.. my males brighten up really fast when they see other males or if they are trying to attract a girl...

when i first saw that video i was like a veiled no way. but my little guy does change color quickly when he is on his brown vines he turns brown when he is walking on the mesh cage he turns grey when he is hunting and in his plastic plants he turns green right now he is trying to be like his big bro el grumpo and stay green and grey. but my jackson changed color almost as fast as that depending what they were walking on when i had them out.

You do know they do not change color in order to camouflage, right? It is a way of communication. Through their coloration they express their mood, intentions to other chameleons, and stress levels. They do not match their coloration to their surroundings... common misconception.

I agree they don't change to the same color as what there on (or if they do it's just because that is one of the colors they have sort of "preset"), but I do think when they are young (and to a degree when they're grown ) there color helps them to camouflage.

yeah most of there color change has to do with mood, activity and thermo regulation but I do think they have some hiding colors, just not the way most people think, ie if you put one on something bright pink, he wont change bright pink
