How hard can a Veiled Cham Bite??

I've never been bit, Good Chams I guess. I have a new adult male veiled that is a little feisty. I know he's going to bite me! I know it!

Hahaa, careful. I was bitten once by my 15 month old veiled.. let me tell you, ouch. He clamped on to my thumb and dug his piranha teeth into my skin. Not fun!
Now I just let him be.. I dont try to handle him. Maybe once a week just to take him outside.

He's happier that way :) and so am I

They can leave you needing stitches! Much respect to the chameleons, lol! Here's a link! https://www.chameleonforums.com/she-bit-crap-out-me-12332/ Thankfully, mine have always been rather people tolerant, bordering on friendly, But I have no doubt that Amy would have me if I p****d her off enough! Tommy is a gentle giant and I only heard him hiss for the first time the other day and I've had him almost 18 months.

Yes you can get a bite to remember from a adult male veiled. I just took in some rescues a bit ago. The second day they were here the veiled nailed me right behind the elbow. Not only did it hurt but it bled like a stuck pig. But them one of the things I do best is bleed. The veiled is named Cujo. He is getting better and eats from my hand. I would not make any attempt to pick him up yet unless I had on gloves.

Rofl @ Cujo, is that you one you freerange by the front door for unwanted visitors ?:D

I've been bitten several times by my Veiled. It hurts a little, but I can take it. I hardly hold him now. He's a feisty SOB.

No but that is a good idea. there are a couple of trees there but they are both fake, maybe I could replace them with real trees. But if he finds a way up into the skylight you best be planning a trip over.:D

UPDATE-

I put a leather glove on to move him to a different enclosure. With the glove on I let him just do it! WOW!!!

This f'er can bite!! He layed his head down sideways to get more in his mouth and crunched down so hard that it hurt through my glove! New Respect for Mowgli! I have a red mark but I'm sure he would have taken an inch of my skin and eaten it! I'm really going to take my time with him now and try not to stress him out. Gloves always too!

My fella before he would come to my hand witout problems was only 6 mth then caught skin on side of my finger wow that hurt. Fully grown maybe would have been swallowing the bit he bit off ;) :)

My veiled broke my skin when he was 2 month old! I've been quick with my hands to get him to scoot onto one with the other so far. I dont really handle him though. Too much stress (for both of us!)

:eek:I once had a veiled, he used to hiss and try to bite. He never actually bit me though, just kinda headbutted me with the side of his face. Perhaps his aim was a bit out!!! :D God forbid what he would have done if he had tagged me though after seeing that link!

after he bit me through my glove my thumb still hurts.. bone crushing hurt! Like a turtle or parrot bite! I own a baby dinosaur! He would surely eat a small childs hand off!

Ear bitten

I knew a guy who was selling panthers at a show before and had a panther on his shoulder and next thing you know bit his ear and took a chunk of his ear with him. I have gotten bitten by a veiled myself and my adult male would grind his teeth back and forth before he let go to get the point across I think. Some chameleons don't mind handling from day one others do it all depends on the Cham they have different personalities.

My male veiled bigNasty bits freaken hard!!! draws blood with those cricket crunching teeth but nothing a bandaid cant fix

I was bit by my panther when he was young, I felt it but it wasn't bad. is that cause he was a baby or because he is a Panther?

I got bit again last week. I got a new wc faly in. He drew blood and left a nice v shaped mark on my thumb. First bad panther bite Ive taken in a while. Yrs ago I had a veiled that would take a finger off if given a chance. I had to use gloves for him. I dont like using them though unless absolutely necessary. Im hoping my new guy chills out after a few weeks.

I have had a grinding bite like that. I've been ripped into pretty good.

One male veiled we had would actually lock on like a pit bull. That was Botero. He was insane. He would actually lunge at the front of his cage and try to chew through the screen to get at me. We had to reinforce the mesh with extra fencing material. He was just like a junk yard dog.

Cleaning his cage was a real trial. Once he got me good and did that lock-on bite. I can't tell you how hard it hurt. He was actually locked onto the bone of my finger, having bit through the soft flesh as far as he could go. Fortunately I had already learned to resist the "fling" reflex (which probably would have sent him and my finger flying across the room). So I just stood there screaming with my hand hanging at my side and Botero suspended from it. Once I calmed down I sought out my husband who was able to pry Botero off my hand. And I mean pry, with a tool. We are pretty sure that he had blood lust. No stitches necessary since it just caused a series of deep piercings. Just a lot of anticeptic and bandages.

Botero was the most beautiful chameleon we had ever owned. But he was crazy. We got him off craigslist. When we went to pic him up it was late at night. It was a cold night and the owner went to the back of the home to get him. We think she had put him outside so he would be so cold he'd be stupefide when we showed up. He didn't come to until the next day. And, boy were we surprised!

My Chamemeleon Mowgli has the very same look in his eye.. It says something like.. "Try me!!" His new thing is to lunge at me and HEAD BUTT me!! IT's pretty funny but I'm not sure if he's going to do it sometime with his mouth open and lock on.

it seems to me that the veiled chams are the most aggressive..ive had some nasty bites from my old male 6 years back "oracle" that bit the crap outta me one day..was only friendly when you are feeding him..ive had panther bites, and one angered jacksons joust me out of his cage while i was cleaning..but i think as for aggresiveness out of the box , veileds take the cake.
