How long can I leave my cham unattended?

I was thinking about going on a camping trip for a night or two... how long can I leave my chameleon alone without anyone misting/feeding? I don't have a mister, but I wouldn't leave him alone until I purchased one. What would be my best bet, a mistking?

Does anyone have experience leaving their cham alone for more than one day?

I would get someone to check in every day, just to make sure all is well.

It depends on a couple of thing...how old is your chameleon? Do you have automated misting? One night? Two nights?

If your chameleon is an adult, it can go without food for quite awhile, so not a problem. Even a juvenile chameleon would be fine for 48 hours without food.

If you have automated misting, then you don't have to worry about hydration....

a healthy adult can go without food for several days no problem, and can go a day even a couple days without water if it had to (of course, its recommended that they do get water daily).

mistking gets good reviews.

Another option is have a friend come by and fill a dripper each day you're away. This also has the added benefit of verifying nothing has gone wrong.

Thanks for the replies.. I will start out with one night camping trips and then bump up to two, as soon as I get a mistking that is.. thanks again

I have a mistking, I fill a 5 gallon home depot bucket before we leave, and give them food as well for the day. We are gone for a few days and feed them the day we come back. Haven't had any problems at all.

Same here!! A misting system was my best investment by farrr!! ( i would highly suggest one, even with a single cham).

Since i won't be around to refill the dripper, i just increase the misting schedule.

I leave for weekend trips about 2 times a month.
I feed b4 i leave on Friday and i come back on Sunday and all is fine.. My biggest concern is to make sure not to overflow my drainage buckets and flood the house.

I agree you for sure need a misting system. I have the MistKing and absolutely love it. The more things you have automated the better. For example you could have the mistking spray in your dripper somehow therefore providing water with both mistings and dripper. There is a great post on a custom cheap made raindome and also Wykd just made a blog which points the Misting system back into the Raindome providing constant water.

Also you could automate filling up the Misting system water resevour using a RO system. It will keep water full therefore you do not have to worry about running out of water and it automatically will shut off when you get to the desired water level. Also of course you want everything on a timer so it always turns off and then turns back on at the correct times.

Also you could have a good feeder cup that would keep the crickets, etc in while also providing some gutload in the feeder cup. There are great feeder cup ideas in the Forums. That way the next day your feeders are still gutloaded and are not free roaming around the cage possibly biting the cham at night.
