Watering - up to five times a day hand misting
Fecal Description - dark brown/white. fairly dense, sometimes mushy and moist (probly just pooped em)
History - he is aggressive and doesnt like to be out of his cage. he hisses.

Cage Info:
Cage Type -18x18x24 screen cage
Lighting - 12/12 uva/b light and red heat light(60w)
Temperature - i need another temp gauge, mine was broken
Humidity - need a humidity gauge too. we spray though
Plants - not at the moment, previously used a ficus
Placement - on a dresser in a bedroom. top is like 4-5' above the floor
Location - northern California

Current Problem - Need vitamins? Getting gauges. Want a mate for him, will that work? His back spikes are missing a section too?? up near his head. the spike between the missing ones and his head are always black too??

As for lights, I follow what the sun is doing. If the days are longer then I follow that, if the days are getting shorter then I do that as well. I adjust acordingly.

Now, there seem to be several issues you should address. This is for the good of your guy!

- The cage size is much too small. A full grown chameleon needs to be in a cage of about 24" x 24" x 48". He'll feel much less cramped.

- Your lighting should consist of a Reptisun 5.0 linear fluorescent bulb for UVB and a bulb for heat to keep the top of his cage at about 85*. Is this what you have?

- You really should be supplementing a lot more. Make sure you get:
1. Phosphorous-free calcium - for most feedings
2. Phosphorous-free calcium with vitamin D3 - lightly dusted twice a month
3. Multivitamin -lightly dusted twice a month.

- If you want a mate for him, will that work for what? You'll need a second cage for her and she will require a lot more work because she'll lay eggs even without being mated.

- If his spikes are missing it might have been a burn or lack of proper humidity during shedding.

PLEASE post photos of your chameleon and the set-up he lives in so we can further help you improve it.

12 on 12 off. I do 7:30 to 7:30

Now as for the rest...
In addition to the previous suggestions which I totally agree with, what are you using to substitute plants? Do you have a lot of branches or something?

Please post pics of your cham and enclosure.

I have a uvb light and a uva/heat basking light. and an umbrella tree. i just ordered my new cage the size you said, 48x24x24, and as soon as it gets here i will set that one up for him. then order a female and raise her in the littler cage. :)

I just didnt know what to give himm and how often, figured none wouldnt be that bad because they dont get it in the wild. well, better than killing him with too much at least.
how do i post pics?
