How long until veileds reach full size

You know, it should be a crime for places like Petsmart and what have you to sell exotic animals, especially those as sensitive as chameleons. They need to stick to the dog food and goldfish. It just always amazes me how many animal welfare groups rally to make sure dogs and cats are being taken care of properly but it seems that exotics are totally dismissed. Incorrect info on husbandry=death. But, that's their business, making a profit quick no matter the expense.

the american way! more money for me is always better.
thats why i want to move to canada.

mo money mo money

I am not sure if they do it on purpose but if they give you bad info they hope you will be back to try again seein as you already have the setup.Mo money, just my humble opinion use this site for all your info and leave petsmart for the crickets oh ya and for all those people who think that the only satisfying pet to own is one that goes woof or meow, wow what a rant,I just hate people or corps that see these pets as disposable.

Really, you don't want the government regulating things too much. Sure, it sucks that Petsmart does what it does. But if the government is going to stop them, they'll be stopping everyone soon. Look into states with exotic laws - it's a nightmare.

just don't buy or rescue things from them. Petsmarts near here carry very few lizards - and no chameleons. They die and dont' sell. So they don't sell them. The market is brutal when you're dealing with live animals, but it does work.

If only the animal rights groups stopped trying to prevent ALL exotic pet ownership, and turned against places like petsmart, they might accomplish something good.

And to keep things on topic:

My male veileds reach full size at around 12-15 months usually. I think my big male might have taken longer, maybe 18. I can't remember if it was 15 or 18.

Females seem to finish faster, around 12 months. But they're not growing as big.

You CAN get them to full size in 6 months. I wouldn't.

well i got mine frm petsmart to and i will admit it was a huge mistake!! She is doing awsome in my care thanks to the wonderful people here on this site but if i would have listened to the know it all acssociate at petsmart she would probably be dead by now. Also get this pestmarts have a certain sex for their stores the store by my house is a female store and the store i got my cham from is a male store hahahaha funny cause my cham is a female. I wouldn't take any advice from them again. Also i have been buying crickets there as well and this last batch i got last night half of them died and there was a weird looking catipillar thing had lots of hairs on it not sure what it was in it. I am now looking into a new supplier to get crixkets as well:)

Ken,

May we see pics of your setup?

You sound like the type of guy who wants to give your cham the best living conditions possible, and something tells me we could give you some pointers and really help you perfect your enclosure.

Just a thought...

Thanks,

Joe

I think Canada has piss poor pet shops that also sell for a profit. Might not be just the "Evil Americans"

I am from Canada and i agree. most pet shops suck terribly. there is one about 40 min drive from my place and it is family owned. its the only place i have ever known to properly take care of their animals. i have never in my whole life found another. and its the only reason i bought my chameleon from them :)
