How many cham owners?

It seems like a lot of people have been buying their first, or an added cham here the last few months.
Do you ever wonder how many cham owners there are in the US alone?

I wonder if there is any way to really know the number.

Unlike cats and dogs, there is not much incentive to spend money on scientific research, and there is sooooo much we don't know about them.

I suspect what little research money is spent, it is not chameleon specific, and is general reptile studies.

Unless there is a huge number of cham pet owners out there, we will never see products like species specific supliments and other products geared to
chams only.

I know of a few ppl, maybe like Dr O, who is doing research which is cham specific, but where do you get the funding for really major studies using large sample numbers and as much time to spend as needed!!

Any thoughts?

great post, but out of my 21 years of life, I am the only Chameleon owner I know of, as a new chameleon/reptile owner (going on 30 days now) I have fell in LOVEEEE with these weird, beautiful and sooo unquie and stubborn 4 clawed pinching friend!

I play an online game with 10 people well 9 plus me! And everytime i play (1-3x's a day) if anyone owns a chameleon, and I've been doing this since I thought about getting Kilo, and NO ONE has ever said yes. Alot of bearded dragons, geickos and monitors; no Chameleons.

I think maybe Chameleons have to go with a certain type of person, all of us have SOMETHING in common. Something we aren't getting in life, something that lets us know, the chameleon is ful-filling our life. Kinda like children, or food. You know what I mean?

Alot of the products at pet stores with Chameleons on them, AREN'T EVEN FOR CHAMELEONS!!! The Retile Calcium i bought has a chameleon on it, thought it would be best right? Well no, because its loaded with tons of D3, so anyone with Chameleon experience will know D3 for chameleons is bad, so why make it look like the product is FOR chameleons..

I hope I find someone close to me (in MA) I would love to turn my hobby into a group of people sitting down, discussing Chams, learning about theirs, teaching about mine...

Whoever is doing Chameleon research, may god bless you. I wish I had the funds to donate for the research, but alone having Kilo has officaly spent all of the money I make in a month [needless to say my BF's as well]

If there is something locally in New Englang I can do I.E. Volunteer/donate my time, PLEASE INBOX ME INFORMATION!

I love your post, thanks for sharing

Interesting post! I think you'd be surprised how many of use there actually are, I went to get a pothos from a local plant store and he knew right away I was getting a cham (I had asked to look at his ficus, scheflerra, and pothos, lol)

I think cham ownership is on the rise thanks to that disney movie, I follow a ton of cham owners on instagram (maxtu always keeps me supplied with a fresh dose of ambanja :D) and a ton of them are named pascal, which I believe is the name of the pet in the movie.

Lets release a bunch of different species into the wild here in the states :D jkjk
