How much should I be feeding my male 1 year old veiled chameleon? I currently am feeding 4 medium crickets in the morning cup feed and then two superworms in the afternoon hand fed. Is this too little or too much? Sometimes I put a mealworm or two with the crickets.
I wouldn't feed him superworms everyday, I give my chameleon superworms 2-3 times a week because they are fatty and can be addicting. https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/74-feeders.html this is a good forum that shows different varieties and how much percent of your cham's diet each one should make up.
Try hornworms and silkworms. Hornworms are high in protein but also high in fat, offer 1-2 times a week, and silkworms are high in calcium and lower in fat some people use these as staple feeders. Maybe you can use feeding tongs to give him crickets when he's out of the cage?
Have you tried Dubia roaches? Much higher in protein, can't climb smooth container walls, don't smell, not very fast, easy to gut-load with calcium-rich veggies and fruit. You could hand feed with tongs or just hold the roach by the sides of its shell. I usually put some of appropriate size in a small feeder cup, hold it in my hand, and offer it to my chams. Works great and now they come clambering when they see the cup, often hold onto my hand when feeding and walk all over me when done eating.
