Hi I just got my veiled chameleon 2 days ago and I know they don't like to get handled most of the time ! But my question is is there a way to get him to climb on a stick or my hand to take him out with our grabbing him for reason like cleaning the cage or vet just incase I do need to take him out so he less stress in a emergensy sistuation !:) thanks any info would be great

It kind of depends on the cham, but I would give him two weeks before you try getting him out.

Some peole do a stick, others a glove, and some chameleons come out on their own. It all depends on their temperment

Thank you ! I sure will wait 2 weeks and see from there ! I rather he climbs on my hand without a glove hopefully he doesn't stress to to much ! Thanks agin

Like Squeekz says a couple of weeks to settle in is best. The easiest way to get him used to you is to offer his first food of the day by hand. Always move slowly and carefully. Be very patient and he will come to your hand to eat :). Never pick up a cham from above, they really don't like it......
Here is a great all-round caresheet for Veileds - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html
From your setup pics in the other thread I think a few extra branches and some more foliage would be a good idea. He looks great though, congrats :)

Make sure he sees your hand whenever it's feeding time. I cup feed my baby panther, and he eats from my hand, eats from the cup, after I fed him like that a few times he started climbing into my hand to eat :) So if he associates the hand with food, then he'll start to like it :p

Yeah for the last part !! I hAvnt found the perfect branch for the top yet ! But thanks everyone for the info I will try hand feeding him tmr ! Do I just wait till he takes it ? Haha thanks !

Just take it slow at least you already know they dont like being handled. Dont use a stick it just takes time to develop "the touch". Use two hands one to almost scoop him up (not to rash) and one to let him grab on if he reaches for a branch to run away.

Mine still nearly has a panic attack every time I so much as look at him! I'm going to wait a few more days(till I've had him 2 weeks) to start trying to hand feed him and stuff. I want him to at least not be completely terrified of me!

Lol sounds about right. It just takes time but keep in mind some never get use to you or like being handled. I had an ambanja for 2 years raised from a pup and he would throw a freak'n fit when you try to touch him and if I was so lucky enough to get him out without being bitten he would do his superman impression so I had to be careful. But the others seem to be pretty good for me.

I hope mine lets me take out out when needed one day! And yes I knew they didn't like to be handled but sometime your lucky ! I just find them so nice and fun to look at ! Thanks everyone ill be posting better picture of my cage soon !

My female veiled does not like to be handled but she has never bitten me. The people who had me before her would always grab her by her back, so even when I go to slide my hand under her, she sees it as a threat and gapes her mouth. I handle her as little as possible because it stresses her out. I do try to handle my new baby a bit more only because I want him to know that I am not a threat. He's no longer than my finger so he is a bit easier to scoop up from underneath. :)

I hope you newer one lets you handle it a bit ! Charmander (name of my chameleon) will still not eat out My hand but he eats about 4 to 6 crickets a day and hunts (or waits till they walk by him he a little lazy sometimes) so it's good ! Thanks everyone again!

I have had my veil a little over a week now and he will let me handle him all I want....he is 4 months old and the girl that has his sister tells us that she is the same way and when she was in care of Picasso, my male, she said he showed all the same temperament of hers.....handling while very young I guess helps to tame them more.

thats exactly my situation! Only my girl did bite m twice already:D

Lol yeah its funny how some are so loving and some the spawn of satin. At least if you've got a feisty cham, chances are he's healthy.

Just one more thing... I didn't notice this in any of the posts, but don't be surprised if he hisses at you (especially as he gets older). My little one did this to my wife once and although she was initially a little upset, it was very cute . They each have their own personality! I usually have one hand out in front of Zaphod, and one behind to coax him slowly. I try not to scoop or grab so he doesn't get upset and not want to be handled. (This does not always work ;))

My little guy hisses at me and snaps to bite my hand everytime I approach him,,,,unless I got a bowl full of critters of course!!!
However,,,,my wife can always get him out on her first try,,,and once out,,he has no issue with crawlling all over my hands and arms!!!

She's probably giving him treats when you're not around ;)!
