How to hang pothos?

Hi i'm getting my new enclosure next month and i'm thinking in advanced how i'm going to hang my pothos plant (atm it's in a hanging basket thing in my flexarium the hook is just hung over one of the black pole things that holds the flexarium together). My new enclosure is going to be a 24x24x48" aluminium screen. So i'm thinking how can I hang my pothos plant in there.

cant think of anyway without damaging the screen a bit, not to mention most of those bought aluminum screen enclosures prob. wouldnt be stable enough to hang heavy plants from the frame without tweeking and making the door impossible to close.

maybe try a stand instead of hanging it.?

One method I learned from Mike Monger at FLChams (that I don't practice anymore but it was cool). Pop four holes around the container of the pothos pot with a little jack knife or box cutter. Then use fishing line to string through the holes and tie the fishing line to the four corners of the top of the cage.

I would personally thread the fishing line through the screen and then wrap it around a screw, and then turn the screw tight.

So in the end you basically have a Pothos suspended in the middle of the cage by fishing line. I would then take the vines and use twist ties to tie them to the screen. I would also try to cover the fishing line with vines so they weren't an invisible barrier to the chameleon.

This method worked good, but the cage became too difficult to clean, disinfect, re-hang plants, clean poop etc. I do the schrefflera now with real branches planted in the pot. I highly recommend it.

Pothos hanging

My suggestion is to purchase a hanging Pothos, go to Home Depot and get a 1/2 dowel - cost about $1.00, Cut the dowel to fit the length or width of your cage (insuring that the ends are resting on the aluminum) that is where the structural support is.
Use Black or white zip ties, fish it through the top of the screen (exactly where you want it) from the inside, come over the dowel and back through the screen, and zip it up tight to the hook (plastic or metal) on the Pothos.
Works like a charm, the dowel hold the weight off the screen. Damage to the screen is minimal, 2 small holes. If you have a big pothos, use something stronger, like aluminum or a piece of all thread.

Good luck,

Todd

I too...

I too have a small pothos plant. It is broken into several fragments but in the same pot. I keep it in the base of the enclosure for now until I upgrade to a bugger enclosure. I too want to hang the pothos to have it drape down throughout the cage when it grow bigger. Another altrernative could be to create a stand within the enclosure to support the pothos at the height you want. Something like an "I" stand. You could camoflage the " I " stand and place the pothos on its top level.

One way 2 do it. .

you can make a stand out of sticks from craft stores n the chameleon can use it 2 get around as well. . n from there branch out more sticks from there n weave the pot branches around them so the can grow wrap around them creating more areas 2 hold water when sprayed. . haven't finished with mine yet once n have it set up i will start 2 take pics n detail not like half pics not showing exacly how they were able 2 create it. so others can learn n make a better living for the chameleons. .

i used a 2''x4" and laid it across the top of the enclosure, then i took fishing line, and tied it around that, then suspended it down to some points on the pot. there is a bunch of ways you could do this.

i put my pothos in the bottom of the cage, and the pothos just climbs up the vine in the cage until the whole cage is full of leaves...

mine is still going strong for about 2 years, just put the plants in the bottom, youll see when the pothos takes over the cage!
