How to tame a Veil?

Hey everyone some of you know I just got a 18 month old veil at the Pomona show a few weeks ago. (see profile pic). Anyway I named him Grumpy because every time I get near him he lunges and hisses at me. So I haven't handled him since I first got him. Any tips on handling him once in a great while? I am not to type who pick him up everyday but I like to hold him once in a while.

Thats gonna be difficult with his age. Try hand feeding first. Once he learns your not a threat he may mellow out

Congrats on your new veiled. He's a very handsome boy. I keep veileds along with panthers and a parsonii and they are all very friendly. Hand feeding is good but I would also try opening his door and put a large plant or tree in front of it. Sit back and watch from a distance to see if he will come out onto the tree. Just make sure you don't have a dog, cat or small kid in the room that could harm him. Usually once out of the cage they are nicer. I free range all my animals and handle them and interact with them on a daily basis. Veileds are very territorial and caged they can become very aggressive.
