How to unfertalize a plant?

can I just put a plant in or do I have to get rid of the fertilizer

Fertilizer is fine, it just needs to not be accessible to the chameleon. You should repot the plant, wash the foliage, and use large pond stones to keep chameleon from being able to get to the soil. To prevent mites and other small insects from messing with the bioactive cultures in my vivs I go on the extra catious side and mix up some dawn soap in a five gallon bucket then dip the foliage under the suds, spray off, repeat, dry in direct sun.
