How to wash lay bin sand?

How do you wash it? Just rinse it well or can you use dawn soap? What does rinsing it do?

You are just rinsing it to get any fine dust particles out that could be easily inhaled.

If you're washing the sand prior to putting it in in a lay bin, i've found the best method is to fill a container 3/4 full of sand, put the bucket under the faucet in the tub, and rinse it for about 5 minutes or until the water runs clear. That ought to remove any dust and small particulate matter!
