How Wet Do You Keep Your Jacksons?

For those of you with Jacksons, do you have some sort of watering/humidity device going off 24/7 or do you allow time for the enclosure to dry out? I've been keeping a cool mist humidifier and a little dripper going all day in my Jackson's enclosure and I hand mist her (even though she hates it) and her live plants 2 or 3 times a day with warm water. With the humidifier going all the time I'm able to keep half her cage at a steady 55%-70% humidity level. I have sufficient drainage so standing water is not a problem.

I don't want too much water, though, and risk her getting a respiratory infection.

I've read that it's recommended to let the enclosure dry out between misting sessions, but is that more for the other species?

You definitely want spikes and drops in humidity levels throughout the day. I currently have my Mistking set up to go off 4 times a day, every 4 hours. Humidity can drop to 50% with spikes of 80 after misting.

After a few years of trying everything, jax can be very tricky to keep hydrated, and after trying both the commercial rain systems and the mistking, I found that my jax do not like the mist nozzles. They run away from it.

I didn't like either of the 2 rain systems by mistking and aquazamp either because they used the standard nozzles, above the screen, and covered only a small area.
Most of the times when it went off, my cham was not under it, and they were not inclinded to get under it if they were somewhere else.

I did notice that they respond much better to the rain drops, they would stand under it, and not run for cover.

So, I made my own rain system, I call it the rain ring.

It's mounted on the INSIDE of the cage top, and water does not go through screen.

If you watch your cham while the rain system is on, you can determine how long it actually takes before they start drinking.
That way, you can judge how long to program the cycles.

I found, for my jax, 5 minutes was enough time for him to start drinking.

So, I programed it for 2 long rain showers a day, which completely soaks the cage. Then enough time for it to dry.

For a jax, I highly recommend a rain system instead of the standard mistking misting nozzles.

Thank you so much Psychobunny. I think you posted on two of my recent posts related to water. I will definitely be going with a rain system as opposed to misting. I may have more questions for you in a couple weeks when I attempt to set this up. For now I will continue with the little dripper and hand misting the plants in her enclosure. That rain machine is awesome! It's made of the cables of normal minsters right?

My jackson loves the nozzles and runs to be near it when it goes off. He loves getting a good shower and is not scared of the spraying water at all. I also have a rain dome in there and he couldnt care less, he only likes the nozzle.
