i bought my baby veiled from petsmart about a month ago and he was abut 2.5 inches long at most. was this really to young for a chameleon to be sold or purchased?
I keep wondering his age because he is 4 inches head to tail an then when i see four month old chams on here they are a good 5-6 inches. i really cant come up with a good age estimate.

Depending on experience I would say yes and no to a chameleon that age.
Under 3 inches sounds very young, probablly only a month old.
Petsmart buys them this age because they are so cheap.
What did you pay? If you dont mind me asking?

Dont mean to answer for him, but here in Cleveland the local Petsmart are selling ones around that size for $89.

i paid 90 because my parents particulary my mom did want to by a chameleon from a breeder with no warranty and petsmart has a 14 day guarentee on all of their pets. she did this because the veiled i had before had mbd and was sold to me and died, and she thinks its the breeders fault. i am personally happy with him, he seems happy and eats well.

ya my mom has wierd beliefs. she trust petsmart for so much even though they do everything wrong.

i am feeding him 1/4 crickets.
hes housed in an 18/24/18
its a aluminum screned i got off ebay new for 20 dollars a steal

a uvb coil light and a 50 watt spot bulb. i plan to get a hood from another user on here for 20" because i here they are better.

its a 10.0 coil. i have it positioned though so its not directly on the chameleon so he doesnt get too much uvb

Well, you sound like you have everything pretty much down.
Get the lighting down and maybe try a fruit fly culture to mix up feeders.
-Good luck

thanks i have fruit flies but he seems to have no interest in them but he loves house dlies

Each pet store is different so sometimes it is hard to say. We run a tortoise rescue and work alot with pet stores. Some can be really really bad. They are in it for the money and nothing else. Where as a breeder is not. Guaranteed. Well most of them. LOL Anyway, some of the breeders do have warranties and you are usually better off buying from them. In my experience anyway. But remember there are good and bad in everything.Keep doing your research and find out as much as you can and you and your cham will probably live together for a long time.
