hello! i have owned chams in the past and have used full spectrum lighting that emits vitamin d3, but these 2 bulbs, high powered sodium and metal halide are extremely more efficent and work a lot better for growing plants, but as for chameleons, i do not know. does any one else know:)?

I was under the impression that you would still need a UVB light. I am sure someone else will chime in if I am wrong.

Those bulbs are not best suited for chams.

A linear flourescent UVB 5.0 and a regular household bulb for heat are the best combination for creating proper heat gradient and UVB availability.

There are high output bulbs available. They are specialized mercury vapor bulbs. You would really need to do alot of research on the different ones available to make sure you didn't get one that could hurt your cham. Then even if you get the right one the placement is crucial to not overheat or overexpose your cham. They are also quite expensive and fragile.

With that said I would suggest, as would most others on the site, going with the linear 5.0 uvb tube and a household bulb for heat.

ok. thank you. the HPS dont even compare to ultra violet when it comes to growing plants, but as far as chams go, i may stick with the uvb. thanks again guys!:)

if you HAVE to go HID then go for mercury vapor, or else it would be safer, easier, cheaper, and more energy efficient to stick with linear for uvb and incandescent for heat.
