Hi all. Can any one help me with how to keep humidity in a flexarium? as i currently keep my chams in half glass half screen fronted vivs but want flexs for the chams benifit. i live in the UK so would this cause any probs?

Im going to assume a flex is the same as a reptarium just UK version? I have my back wall covered in a black garbage back to help 1) keep misting from hitting the wall) and 2, the black helps keep in moisture and heat. I also have 9-12 plants (lost count) that are misted 3-4 times a day. I use a cool mist Reli on humidifier during the dryer months. My humidity stays about 64%. Plants are a big big must to help with humidity!

If this set-up is working, why change it?

Humidity can be increased in many ways, such as:
live plants
NOT using all screen cages
keeping the enclosure in a small room
have a small humidifier in the room
having a fish tank in the room :)
misting more frequently

Firstly thanks. a flex is a all screen enclosure. I have got a cold water tank in the room will this help? never thought of the rubbish bag tho great idea. notice that someone says not to use screen cages whys this? i want to change it for the chams benifit the air smells stall sometimes even tho there is a part screen on it and i heard this can cause probs.

I dont know. I know a lot of people use them over here. I kno in the UK people go with glass because of temp.humidity issues. There are lots of people from the UK on here. IN fact there is a thread started on either the first or second page about anyone from the UK.. if you go in there, I bet you could get some answers on what they do and recommend for that location.

Is the cold water tank a humidifier?

Did you mean me? I said one of the ways to maintain humidity is to not use an all screen cage. I said this because it is good advice IF you are having trouble maintaining humidity.
Sounds however like your current set-up, if the air is stale, has insufficient air-flow.

Read this link for more info (sorry, I've typed the reasoning so many times my fingers hurt, but this E-Zine article essentially says the same as what I think):

sorry got the wrong end of the stick

Any kind of open water, like your gold fish tank, will help increase the humidity in a room. The smaller the room, the more surface area of water, the warmer the water and the more aggitated the water, the greater the benefit

I keep hermit crabs in a tank (damp sand substrate) in the same room as my chameleons. I've noticed a marked increase in humidity in the room.

Thanks Sandrachameleon i have read that link and must say that it is very good i will be taking a few things from it and apply to my own husbandry.
