humidity question

Hey all. New to chameleon care. Been reading quite a bit on here and there's a ton of helpful info.

My question is about humidity. I mist for 30 seconds 4 times daily. I also have a drip. Temp is normal in cagestill the humidity drops to 10% about 15 mins after a mist. I have. 2 plants in as well. Any advice on raising humidity or if this is normal would be appreciated

I am also trying to up the humidiy and got some luck by putting a himidifier in the room also i was told to wrap a shower curtain around 3 sides to lock the humidity in which i am trying tomorrow, right now i am airing the curtain out because it smells horrible right out of the package!

where do you live? You should be misting for about 3-5 minutes. 30 seconds is not long enough. Also try the humidifer.

I live in dry arizona. I'm wandering how accurate these digitol guages are.

I used to mist for 3-4 minutes 3 times a day and then on the weekends or any day i was home id mist for an extra 30-45 seconds just so my little guys got some extra water

What company made the gauge? My flukers always seems to line up with my Accurite, and my Accurite seems to line up pretty well with the new/weather channel.

It is made by exo terra. I'm wandering if the humidity is escaping so fast because the cage is made out of wire mesh. Window screen material would probably trap it in a lite better. Anyone have experience with both and noticed a difference?

A few things that can help.

Are you misting your cham with an auto mister, pump mister (like a garden type one) or a spray bottle? The water you mist with should be nearly scolding hot to your touch before you mist. I know it sounds really stupid, but once it travels through the nozzle and comes out as a mist it is just warm and that will help raise humidity drastiaclly, also it keeps the temp changes from misting less. I know i was having problems with humidity before i started using warm water.


You really cant put too much water in there, mist the cage until you thik its enough, then mist some more... and then mist some more... and then mist some more. multiple minute mistings and hot hot water will keep your humidity up

Going into the winter here in WI, I hooked up my humidifier in my room. I also bought the window insulator kits and put it on the windows inside my room as well. The excess plastic and tape was put on the perimeter of my cage and then I heat sealed it the same way I did the windows. My humidity has yet to get down below 55% and the rest of my room is holding steady at 50%.

I sleep awesome at night, lol

Thank you guys for the advice. I am using a hand mister. I will try the warmer mist. So far noticed a higher humidity. Also I blocked off one of the sides of cage to slow airflow a little.

Next step if needed will be a room humidifier. Thanks again guys for the responses and all the input on the site.

My Cham has a mesh cage, i am lucky that my humidity sits at 50 to 60% all day go up to 80 to 90% when misting with a spray bottle.

Post a pic of your cage and the surroundings also stat were you live.

It seems to get very dry in my room during the winter here in CA but I figure their urates look good and I do catch them drinking regularly so I must be doing something right!

Yeah its been frustrating but he seems to be doing great. Eating like a champ. Haven't seen him drink yet but he's not dehyrdrated.

Pysrocco- it says mu uploads are disabled. Basically I built a 16x16x24 wire mesh cage. Closed off the back. I have an hibiscus and a jasmine plant int there. A drip on top that I move around from plant to plant.

Just watch out for mold if you are running a humidifier and live in a cold area.
