hurricanes

Matter of fact, everytime a hurricane comes through Fla. me and my buddies ALWAYS throw hurricane parties.

I'm off to a poker/ keg party right now!

I just saw on the news that Fort Myers is the new projected path.
Good luck Mike at Fl Chams, I hope you house fairs well.
I'm in Central Florida near the Space Coast, so that puts me on the NE side of the storm.
Anyways, we should all be fine.

Geez, some people kill me. Its not even a proper storm, yet people are FREAKING OUT. Yea I went to the store today and bought some water, only because I do not like my tap water and I buy a few gallons every week. Yea I got flashlights and candles, that I have had for YEARS. Around here, the local news simply says, "yea its a storm, be smart." Other nationwide stations come busting in " FOX NEWS ALERT! HURRICANE FAY BARRELING DOWN ON FLORIDA!" I guess I just don't view storms like everyone else. Matter of fact, everytime a hurricane comes through Fla. me and my buddies ALWAYS throw hurricane parties. Anywho, I will say that a clever person would get out of the way of a massive storm (i.e. Katrina) but this hurricane seems more like a good rainshower for a state that been drying up for a few years.

that wasn't a very intelligent post....

first of all you don't even live in the affected area.

second of all you probably have absolutely no idea how quickly the storm could have stayed due north, hovering 10-15 miles over tropical warm water, turning into a class 3 hurricane and slamming everyone, no one is blowing it out of proportion, we just learned from 2005, grow up

Dank; Is everything ok over your way? Here on the east side we are getting allot of rain and a little wind. I have a few Palm branches down and the ditches out front by the road's filling up with water. Jann

I so have to agree with Dank here. Several years ago we were getting prepared for what we thought would be a category 1 or 2 here in Tampa and thinking we had several hours to go, the thing turned due East-strengthened into a cat 3-and smashed into a coast South of here of lesser prepared people resulting in mass damage and death. You don't take these things lightly.

Hey Jan-I live right down the road from Dank. It is actually sunny here. Not even a bit of rain yet. I work by the Tampa airport and it is nice and breezy and a bit cloudy. I am sure we will get rain shortly though.

Glad that everything's ok there. I think since it turned we are getting more of the wind and rain here. Jann

I am glad you guys on the east are OK. We are getting buckets of rain and some pretty good gusting winds. I guess I am more worried about all the tornado warnings. My chameleons don't like not being able to see sunshine out their windows - it is pretty dark outside.

You are all correct. We don't take warnings lightly - we are prepared. People lose roof shingles in this kind of wind and also screened porches. Do you all bring your chams in from outside?

I would bring them in if it was windy enough. Mine are actually pretty sheltered in the corner of the lanai next to the house.

I don't think anyone in Florida is FREAKING out. It never hurts to be responsible and prepared. The above photo i took from my phone yesterday as an outer band from TS Fay blew through. This was about a mile away from school, about 20 minutes after dismissal. Tornadoes are no joke.

Sure this is a "mild" storm, but they do spawn dozens of tornadoes, which are usually more damaging than the storm itself.

It hasn't rained here yet, yesterday or today.

I brought in all the plants and the boys from the porch last night, just to be precautious. Sometimes it gets so windy here during this season, even when a storm isn't called for, I have to bring them in and plants are all turned over....

yes ma'am hurricane charley, everybody was all happy about it because it was the first hurricane we'd had in quite some time, everybody was like yay its going to be a class one, maybe 2 by landfall , and then it came smashing in just south of us and ripped everyones homes , but luckily that one came in went, some of these bigger systems that sit and hover and create all that tornado environment from low pressure like josh was saying...tahts the scary part

i didn't mean to jump all over u for saying media makes a bid deal of it cuz they do, but you also have to understand, at the same time u are saying its not a big deal, there is actually an area that is getting hit in florida pretty hard and tornado warnings all over last night and today so your theory is just a lil bit off

I can't even imagine a storm of that magnitude, we see them on the news up here and it's like watching a movie "Can that really be happening?"
Winter storms are the worst thing weather-wise for us up here, winter of '06 dumped 2 feet of snow on us in less then a 8 hour period!
Luckily the worst that happens is you have to stay home from work (I'm not complaining at all!!!)

What would be the best thing to do for your chams in a situation where power was lost for a long period, more then 2 days...would it be a good idea to give an extra dosage of D3, since they wouldn't be getting the UVB from their light.
Any of you who live in the more northern states might remember 5 years ago, August 14, 2003 when the power went out for about 48 hours. This was due to everyone over-using electricity though, not a storm!

we didn't get barely hit at all just a nice nice breeze i like to call it lol and some drizzle, perfect day for outdoor breeding, turned my mistking on short 30 sec misting sessions every 5 minutes during breeding, i believe this helps makes things easy on the female

I have been watching with my toes and fingers crossed. You should see all the weird looks I have been. Glad it worked and our FL brothers and sisters are all well. Watch out for the flooding though as that can be just as bad or worse.

good luck everyone.

The wind is flowing and has been all day long with rain, rain, rain. Every hour or so we get tornado warnings. It isn't over for us for sure.

Update:

The eye is currently 61 miles from my house. And should hit us in 6-7 hours.
It's raining sideways.(horizontal)
I just took a drive in winds that are sustained between 30 and 40 mph.
Gusts are much, much, very much higher.
I had to lock it down in four wheel drive to keep from losing traction on the road.
My work has lost power in half the building.
Lots of down trees and branches.
We had a tornado touch down 20 miles from my house.

:(:eek::(:eek::(:eek::(:eek::(

Justin i know how you feel, I'm only a few miles from you and its pretty ugly out there already. The bands are bringing a ton of rain and our pool is about to the top. I went out in the wife's mini cooper to get some food and found out pretty quick that it was not the best idea. But hey at least we wont have any water problems due to a drought anytime soon ;)
